I recall EB getting some snaps at QB and he's a safety. Truth be told, I agree, but if it piques his interest...
=Sabanocchio;2928104]Elam doesn't have the ball skills that Eric Berry has. And he's not built like a running back. You don't put your star safety at RB. It just doesn't happen. That's why everyone has a role. JMO.
. [/QUOTE]On the Hoof: Elam is built like a tank, both in the upper and lower body. He's strong, extremely physical and runs exceptionally well. He looks like a beast and plays like a beast.
Needs Improvement: Needs to improve his ability to play the ball in the air as a defender. Elam looks to make the big stick and ignore the ball, which is great from an intimidation point of view, but a key pick can turn a game around instantly.
Most Impressive: Very versatile and may be able to play running back, linebacker or safety at the next level. He will surely excel early in his career on special teams.
Conclusion: Right now, he is a man without a position at the next level. But he will find a way to get on the field in some capacity early in his career because of his great work ethic and superior athletic ability
Scouts have yet to agree upon where Elam is best suited on the next level, but they all agree that is a great player. He has potential at linebacker, running back, receiver or safety. He certainly has the pedigree as his older brother, Abram, plays safety for the Cleveland Browns.
The first thing I noticed about Elam on film is his size. While not tall, he is a sturdy looking prospect who seems to have a thick, tough frame — although not a long, rangy player (so lacks much room to grow). This will allow him to play a number of positions. It also means he likes to hit and hit hard. This physicality is what makes him an intriguing outside linebacker. He does not have the ideal size but the speed, toughness and tenacity to fill against the run with great effectiveness. His fast twitch ability also allows him to play sideline to sideline and get accurate and sound pass drops into coverage. A rover position would actually be a perfect fit for his athletic ability and toughness.
As a running back, his physical style of play and initial explosiveness makes him an interesting option. He also brings soft hands and deceptive open field agility. His versatility is a welcome problem for any team but for a very creative Florida Gator coaching staff, Elam could be a monster. The athlete committed to the defending national champs during the middle of his junior season (Oct. 2009).
whose to say what a rb is built like? just look at our team, they are all physically different. I disagree with you about Elam, I think he does have the ball skills. He has a 7.67 yard per carry average.
.
I can see your point, but IMO he does not have ball skills at this level. Certainly not on the level of Eric Berry or even approaching it. Eric Berry isn't a guy you put at another position either either. These safeties are too valuable to a team. Look at how sparingly he's been used on offense.
When I say he's not built like a RB, I am saying that he doesn't have the lower body strength that the position typifies. I think he would be a WR before a RB. You won't ever see Elam playing any position but safety unless it's as a special teams player. JMO.
Occasionally I get emails from "insiders" and I hardly ever post the stuff because who knows if its real info or not. That being said, I received one that for some reason I think might have some substance. The guy said to watch for something to happen with Justin Hunter.
Miami, Fla., four-star defensive end/athlete Delvin Jones is committed to Tennessee, but Ole Miss, Alabama, Arkansas and Nebraska are very much in the picture.
Jones said Tuesday he's planning to visit Ole Miss, Alabama and Arkansas. Additionally, he definitely plans to take an official visit to Tennessee. He's also considering a trip to Nebraska.
"As of right now, I'm still committed to them, but anything could change between now and signing day," Jones said.
