Running back depth

That's impossible. At the 98 O&W game Travis Henry was 4th string. I was there.

These people think that one or two years is going to solve our talent issue. It will take three to five years of recruiting like this past season to get us back to competing for championships. 50 percent of these kids will never see meaningful playing time. It's a fact on anyone's roster.

Lmao at "are you 35 OR younger" like that means we know less about football. At least we still know how to use the english language properly, old timer.

It means you were born in the golden era of vol football. Those of us that grew up in the 70's have seen hard times and knew it wouldn't last forever. It won't at Bama either. I remember people griping in 2004 after consecutive 10 win seasons. I knew we had become spoiled.

You can solve your talent issue with a couple of recruiting classes. You're just not going to solve your depth issues that quickly.

But at this point you don't know any more about the future of this group of RBs than those who are actually excited about their potential. But the fact is Butch and his staff have recruited some quality RBs and we've got the offensive staff to coach them up. If you want to be continnually negative then go right ahead. Me? I'm pretty effing excited about the kids this staff is recruiting.

In 2001 we signed 3 of the top 10 tb in the nation. Cedric Houston, Jabari Davis, and Derrick Tinsley. Houston turned out to be the best of the bunch and he was average at best. You just never know.

well don't forget Tinsley scored the only touchdown of the Miami game. sometimes your not a star every minute but you shine at just the right time!

First, I responded to a statement about our RB depth as compared to Lewis' era. That running back corps was incredible and I kinda tongue in cheek responded the way I did.

Second, it's easy in hindsight to recognize how talented they were and that they were an all-time great group of RBs. I'll bet you were excited with what you saw at that O&W game but you couldn't have known just how good they were gonna be. I can't imagine that our 2015 group will be as good, but who knows? No one yet.

Third, in terms of pure talent, we really don't know how our current group of RBs will stack up vs Lewis, Stephens and Henry. However, in terms of having a very deep, talented group of RBs, any UT fan has to be excited with 5 star Hurd, 4 star Kamara, 4 star Scott and top Georgia all-purpose back Paulk. We have very talented depth at RB for the first time in a very, very long time.

Late 90s? Hell, how old are you? The late 80s, and the entire 90s. Its hard to argue against the back field of Aaron Hayden, James "little man" Stewart and Charlie Garner. Also, don't forget about Jay Graham and company........

What @ that Cobb+Webb, then Thompson. Ole Johnny had the wagon loaded then as well.

Not many people mention it, but in 99' Travis Stephens got redshirted and Lewis, Henry, AND Onterrio Smith played. Thats a rediculous group.

And signed Gerald Riggs the year after.....two five stars and two high four stars. Nice players but none played in the nfl to amount to anything like their great predecessors.

You are exactly right about Riggs, on paper that was an unbelievable amount of talent. Jabari was the 2nd coming of Ricky Williams, Tinsley was a Marietta legend, and Riggs was the #1 RB in 2002 whose dad was an all pro NFL back.
