Europe's forgotten war maybe be ready to escalate again after Russia's actions today. They have blocked the Kerch strait effectively blockading the Sea of Azov for the Ukrainians. Russian coast guard ships earlier rammed a Ukrainian navy tug trying to pass through and have also threatened to board any Ukrainian flagged ships. Everyone knows the Russians are doing the fighting in the trenches of eastern Ukraine but this is the most serious overt Russian action since the invasion of Crimea back in 2014. Depending on how the next few hours unfold we could see the heavy fighting erupt in the east again. Ukraine has already placed its naval forces on a high alert position.

Damn nb4 Ras defends russia

Su-25s had a fly by off the bridge earlier. The Russian ship physically blocking the strait has moved but Russian ships and helicopters are still refusing passage of the Ukrainian navy ships who are determined to reach Mariupol.

Talk about biased reporting... They offer no proof, they just make a statement as if it is a foregone conclusion.

Except there are dozens of reports circulating that the Russians are being aggressive in blocking the strait. Why is it that Russian flagged ships are being allowed access and not Ukraine's?

I'm not talking about the Kerch Strait, I'm referring to the statement that Russian forces are in the trenches in Eastern Ukraine.

Is this one of those situations we're expected to resolve while other countries sit on their thumbs?

Looking more like the Russians have actually fired upon the Ukrainians. First time *officially* that Russian military forces have engaged them. Wonder where this goes now? Petro has called for a UNSC emergency meeting.

Why do you have "officially" in quotes? What are you suggesting?

Russians are attempting to board the ship and the Ukrainians are not having any of it.

This incident didn't just start out of the blue. There was a catalyst for this. It will be very interesting to see how this story develops over the next few days. I'm sure Ukrainian vessels have had access to the Sea of Azov since 2014, so undoubtedly, there was some shenanigans that were going on that the Russians may have gotten some intel about recently. Western interests transferring arms to the Eastern Ukrainian provinces possibly?

Seems fishy
