Russia Blocks Kerch Strait

If we would mind our own business, we wouldn't be in a position where we felt compelled to take action in a skirmish halfway around the globe.
I think you’re setting yourself up for disappointment on this one Ras. We’ve already chosen our side. How we inject ourselves is going to be interesting to watch unfold. It’s gonna get dicey if we start rolling the 6th Fleet into the Black Sea en masse. We’ve got two ships in the Black Sea now they got there in August.

Again, there has to be a catalyst for this action. Putin, even his critics would have to admit, isn't one to act capriciously. If he is taking military action here, there must be some sort of military provocation or reason that the Ukrainians have started.

From suggesting to there must be, and you still say you aren't defending them?

Ukrainian naval command reports 3 boats have been captured (2 coast guard ships & a tug trying to recover them).

Maybe the arms shipments is what this is about.

Trump tipped of Putin. lol
Doubt it. Context doesn’t make sense.

To think that Russia doesn’t covet Crimea and tightening its oversight of the Sea of Azov is naive. Will be interesting to see how Russia validated their actions in the coming days.

And I can’t find a peep about this on our national media outlets?! Wtf?!

I doubt that. If they have been there since August, that would have violated the Montreux Convention.

At least Putin had the good sense to wait until after the U.S. midterms. Helps his boy Donny justify letting the Russians steamroll the Ukraine.

Oh ffs. The 6th Fleet has a presence in the Black Sea Ras and has since Feb this year!
Just clarifying so you don't think they are just perched there for months at a time. The Montreux Convention clearly defines how long a military vessel can be in the Black Sea.

Donny probably told him he'd have more flexibility after the election.

They are not allowed to be “perched there” for months at a time no. And we can’t have total tonnage over 30,000 tons in the Black Sea at any one time so no aircraft carriers. That’s about 3-4 Arleigh Burke class GMDs. But yes the US indeed is keeping s presence in the Black Sea as of the start of this year and still abiding by the convention.
