In 1968 you had the preeminent civil rights leader of the time assassinated, the frontrunner for the Democratic Party Presidential nomination assassinated, and a protest movement that makes something like BLM or the George Floyd protests pale in comparison. Simultaneously. Just feels like the country was way closer to the brink then than now. I think we are more divided today than say, the 1990s, but not the 60s or 70s.
I think the level and intensity of division is the same, but instead of intense divisions along racial lines or divisions about Vietnam, we are now intensely divided between vaxed/unvaxed and red state/blue state philosophies.

Division yes...I think the point is that are today's divisions more or less than those of say, the 1960s. I don't think they are. I think today's divisions are higher than 20 or 30 years ago but not particularly close to the 60s divisions.
