Ryder Cup: It's Rivalry Week

. . . and then Furyk with the clutch shot from the divot. Under that kind of pressure, that shot was a lot harder than it looked.
I thought it looked like a decent lie. He made the smart play just laying it in the center of the green and forcing Jimenez to make a tough putt.

it was the best possible lie you get that's in a divot. But it was still in a divot and that is never easy.

no argument. Looking at the replay, his divot started way in front of that ball, He just played it back, choked up and went at it. I know under that heat it's a big shot, but JB's from 70 to the back pin looked much tougher to me.

it's all a matter of opinion, but I would actually rank JB's approach after the drive left that pinballed itself down the hill, around the gallery and into a great spot as being the tougher shot. Knowing he hit a bad shot, got such a crazy break and then using it to his full advantage was incredible.

i loved me some Zinger as a kid. so glad to see his plan come together. we kicked their asses this weekend.

this has to be one of the best weeks of golf i have watched in quite some time. obvious i know, but i wasn't as into another Ryder Cup as i was this one since 1999.

count me as one of the ones who discounted the USA. i've never been happier to be so wrong.

sometimes i wonder why i even root for the Euros on the tour.

just got done watching the press conferences on Golf Network. a few things i took away:

1. Kenny Perry is an incredible story. the guy took so much flack for skipping majors while playing so well this year. for him to come out with all the pressure and deliver was awesome. while the Ryder Cup is still a team event, golf is every bit about individualism. i'm happy that he found a way to accomplish both this weekend.

2. the way these guys, rivals on any other weekend, embraced each other was so refreshing to see.

3. Westwood is still a whiny douche.

4. i have a lot of respect for Paddy Harington. he was one of the few stand up guys on the Euro team.

5. Jimenez is an incredible player. the guy has every shot in his bag.

It amazes me how much the Ryder Cup victory has made me forget the disaster yesterday. Saturday morning I went to the bball practice and stayed for a bit of the scrimmage, but I raced back to my tailgate to see the back nine of the morning matches.

What a win for the US, I admit I had serious doubts. Great job by Azinger all around. Setting up to give the Americans the advantage early and then he did an AMAZING job of picking partners throughout the weekend. Holmes was a great addition, as was having Perry, especially being in Louisville. This team showed more heart than I've seen from a US Ryder Cup team in awhile.

Watched this win from start to finish. By the second half of UT/UF, was only checking in on the game.

Ryder was the most entertaining weekend of TV I've seen in ages. Golf Channel coverage of the celebration last night was pure gold!

Ryder Cup is my favorite sporting event, bar none. Watched almost all of it. Fortunately for me, the afternoon wedding I attended helped me miss the UF game.

I thought Boo hit the ball better than everyone else. He just kept busting it down the pipe and to 15 feet or less. AK is our version of a young Sergio. Not sure how I feel about that, given that Sergio drives me nuts at these things.

Speaking of Sergio, his putting went to absolute hell.

Harrington's game is in the crapper. He was hitting it like Mickelson.

There was no freaking way that Jimenez was going to beat Furyk. Dude doesn't lose singles matches that matter.

Folks on tour are very fortunate that Perry didn't find that putter 10 years ago, 'cause some of them would have fewer major trophies with the way he strikes it.

Poulter saved Faldo's bacon by making every putt he saw.

It wasn't highlight of the matches, but Curtis beating Jack-O-Lantern yesterday was fabulous, especially after the whining about Boo. Boo beating him on Sat was even better.

If I recall correctly, I don't think Sergio, Harrington or Mako teeth won any matches outright. That's awesome.

Looks like we found some future horses for these team comps in AK, Mahan, Boo, JB.

Presidentams cup is next, but it just isn't the same. Hard to dislike guys like Weir, Singh, Els, Appleby etc.

I was standing about 25 yards from the green when JB put us a point up and when Furyk sealed the deal. One of the more incredible sports experiences I have ever had.

Right place at the right time. Good job Lex. That is awesome.

sounds fabulous.

I was fortunate enough to be at Brookline in 99 for Leonard's bomb. That joint went nuts. Probably the loudest thing I've ever heard.

Some wonderful golf played all weekend no doubt. I have a new found respect for Hunter Mahans game, other than the blocked out right tee shot on #18 Sunday the guy played rock solid and putted lights out. Kenny Perry rolling em' in from everywhere Sunday was quality stuff also, our beloved football Vols could have used Anthony Kim this weekend, the little guy has the fire and competitive spirit to rival all the games best and it doesn't hurt that he has some game too.

is it bad that i feel for bad for the all the negative press Faldo is getting in the Euro tabloids?

not at all.

i think he's a pretty likable guy myself. i don't think there's anything he could have done differently. the Americans put their foot on the pedal from the second they walked on the tee and didn't let off until it was done.

and his three studs sucked. Adding Monty and Clarke to the mix wasn't going to fix that. Neither of them would have outplayed Poulter and Rose.

glad to hear I'm ok with feeling bad for Faldo. Like OWH said, I've really grown to like him since he began the TV work. And as doozer and BMFPV said, there was nothing he could do. How many expected Westwood to just lay a giant turd or for JB Holmes and Boo Weekley to play like they did?
