Cowherd said today that he was told that the reason there are no names being leaked associated with the USC job is because USC has their big fish but the "big fish" has told USC that if his name surfaces linked to USC that it won't happen. He said the salary will double what they paid Pete Carroll. Cowherd said he was told who it is and its huge. I don't typically listen to him but I was on Southwest Airlines and it was the only thing to watch.

Not sure if he meant Saban, but he said its huge. I know it's cowherd - I am not a fan of his, just reporting what I heard

Doubling Pete Carroll's last salary is not much of an increase for Saban.

I don't buy Saban going to USC or Texas but doesn't it seem strange that Kirby Smart's name isn't being mentioned with any of the decent open jobs? Wonder if he knows that Saban is close to retiring?

I have never understood all the love for Smart. I think he would be another Muschamp, good d coordinator, terrible head coach. Jmo.

Kirby is paid a lot, so he's likely content to wait for the right gig. Big schools like USC aren't going to take a guy with no head coaching experience unless the guy has deep ties to the program.

Best guess: Smart will either take over for Nick Saban or Mark Richt.

So what you're saying is Cowherd is playing the same game Basilio likes to play - make up some stuff or vastly exaggerate the details of a "source" and get ratings because the window lickers just have to hear this.

Cowherd has NFL sources not CFB ones and that is about the only situation where being associated could be a deal breaker. Kelly maybe?

I doubt they set themselves up for the possibility. If Strong is out, they won't approach Saban again. Do you honestly think Texas is more attractive now than in 2013?

If Miles really does wind up on the street, he'll be the Longhorns' coach in 2016.
