They are making less and less of these Heroes
Curious what you mean by this. From my experience, our veterans are pretty universally respected and celebrated. We’re certainly a far cry from the disgraceful demonization of our troops that took place during the Vietnam era. Even during the GWOT, the American public directed their anger over the war at the right people — politicians — and not the vets returning home.

What is concerning is that a tiny percentage of the population (1-2%) shoulders the privilege and burden of military service, meaning that the vast majority of Americans have no personal investment in foreign policy and military affairs. Nor can the average American, though they may support the troops in a vague sense, truly understand the lived experience of service members and their families.

Most troubling of all are the high rates of veteran homelessness, substance abuse, and suicide, all three of which are damning indictments of our nation. So if by what you said you mean that we talk a good game about veterans while failing to put our money where our mouth is, I wholeheartedly agree.

Tennessee Army National guardsman since 1998. I'm still serving with pride. When people tell me "thank you for your service," I always remember I have been blessed way more for serving than what I've given back. Hope it stays that way cause I know things could change on a dime. I've got 6 more years until I'm forced to retire, so I'm happy the next 4 years will be under an administration that will do everything it can to keep us strong and safe.
