Sam Pittman and Arky quietly putting together a decent staff

Arkansas is a tough place to recruit to and good luck to CSP and his staff except when they play Tennessee.

This staff is outstanding so far! They actually are better off than with what Ole Miss is putting together.
I agree with the Hogs poster. They are at such an historic low for the program miracles probably aren't happening anytime soon. I do think OM has some exciting young talent and with the obvious abilities of Lane (although some despise the guy and cant see it) they will shake it up fairly quickly. Still bottom line both are playing in the toughest division in the toughest conference and it'll be a difficult road either way. JMO. I do hope for the sake of the SEC and Hog fans everywhere they make improvements quickly. Goodness knows they have paid some ugly dues!

Other than being with his father, what has Briles really done? Houston wasnt great shakes this year before the QB got hurt and FAU wasn’t all that special when he was there. Just asking.

It’s a legitimate question. FSU was atrocious this year on offense and FAU drastically improved offensively under Kiffin with and without Briles. That was Art Briles program at Baylor. It’s more of a reaction to the name than anything else imo. He was an OC at three different programs for one year at each stop outside of Baylor.

Three Top 20 offenses in five years as an OC:

Here are Briles’ offenses’ finishes in Offense PAN during his time as OC:

2019 Florida State: 46th
2018 Houston: 14th
2017 Florida Atlantic: 8th
2016 Baylor: 57th (interim year)
2015 Baylor: 3rd

Mass Exodus of players in 2016 and somebody else's recruits in 2019.

Opens up recruiting doors in Texas.

From 2012 to 2014 he served as Baylor's passing game coordinator, receivers coach and offensive recruiting coordinator. In 2015 Briles was promoted to offensive coordinator.[3] He was a 2015 finalist for the Broyles Award, given annually to the nation's top college football assistant coach.

2014 BIG XII Recruiter Of The Year.

Wasn’t he with Kiffin, a pretty decent OC himself at FAU? I’m just not seeing a game changer in the SEC. Maybe he eats up Pruitts defense next year and I realize he’s better than our former NFL DC.

FAU was in the top 20 offensively without Briles and FSU was 73rd in total offense this year not 48th. That was Art Briles offense at Baylor, they finished in the top 5 in total offense for four straight years between 2011-2014 before KB was the offensive coordinator.

I agree. Sam Pittman was the best Offensive Line coach in college football but how many position coaches do you see elevated to the head coach of a Power 5 program (and in the toughest division?). Arkansas has really rolled the dice on this one.
It was an upgrade. Hire Odom while getting a top tier OL guy & Briles. Going to be a very different Arky on offense next year.

Chief Chavis has several SEC titles and a NC ring on his finger. Odum ain’t got ****.

So does Spurrier. Doesn’t mean the game hasn’t passed him by.

Kendal Briles’s offenses have averaged 40 points per game since he’s been an OC. Granted that includes taking over a loaded Baylor offense and G5 teams which aren’t the SEC but his one year at FSU he improved them from like #113 to #65 in total offense IIRC. They still weren’t very good but that’s a big leap from where they were before he got there.

I’m sure he’ll try to get D’eriq King to transfer but King will probably have LSU and other suitors as well if he decides to leave Houston.
