Watching Jordan play and some of her unforced TOs, she really just needs to relax. Every thing she does feels a bit rushed. It seems that she is having trouble adjusting to the speed of the college game but in this case, she is expecting it to be faster than it actually is.
Yes, I've often thought its the speed of the game for them except the game is too slow for them, not too fast. Either way, its being unable to find a rhythm or flow. I kind of think both are victims of stuff they were able to get away with in high school that no longer works. I'm bummed that neither has shown much detectable improvement this late in the season. They still do exactly what they've done.
Holly never coached Horston.
This is the scariest thing of all. JH is so reminiscent of every lack of development story we roasted Holly with for years. Same damn movie, different director. Of course it could be an overrated recruit, which the program has developed a real knack for, but it doesn't seem like that. I still think JH is highly developable. Sure hope so.

The encouraging thing is the amazing development, apparently by the current staff, of Jazz. It can be done apparently.

Well, a few points. The season isn’t over. Lady Vols won the National Championship with ten losses. Realistically, four years before close to elite status. Several players and Harper have the flu....Rennia still recovering. When I have the flu, I can’t even remember my name.

Thank you.

People are grossly underestimating the seriousness of the flu that’s going around, and also how contagious it is. I’m guessing Rennia was unknowingly in the early contagious stage while still making physical contact with teammates in practice, and everyone breathing hard.

I said last night that I was afraid the whole team might end up sick at the absolute worst possible time for that to happen. I know I’ll be keeping everyone in my thoughts. This stuff can be dangerous.

When our season does end,,,we need to get in the gym and learn the basics
If we did that we'd be much further ahead
we need to take some
Nah, not buying that argument. Its a week or two at most in a five month off season. Plenty of time to get practice, game, and tourney experience and then work the basics. The value of that experience is way higher than an extra week of drills.

Basically, your argument seems to be the WNIT is an existential threat to the program. It's magical, just like time outs, only in an evil way. Sign a WNIT contract and you're instantly La Tech for life. Look there's the ghost of Leon Barmore!

You could be right (not really) but I think that may be a tad dramatic. I view the WNIT as a little less scary. Started the season in Europe, end in MSG NYC. Get experience. Not a lethal blow.

Also, I'm not sure it would all be the cupcake fest you envision. See the game last night?

But WNIT discussion is irrelevant, minus an epic collapse, LVs in tourney, albeit pretty crappy seed. Unless we have some real SEC tourney fun!

Haven't you heard..."teams take on the personality of their coach"
God love your players.

I wasn't totally thrilled with Kellie and I am surprised at the lack of energy on the sidelines. I thought we might see more Pat ripping players when they fail to do what they should and then benching even the top players when needed. My main concern was the failure at NC State and now look at State under Wes. He would have been a good selection for us but I was hoping for Walz. I hope Kelly will find that intensity like when she was a player. Maybe shes just feeling her way through a tough conference. Right now I don't see the errors getting fixed or players developing. But for all that it is what it is and will stay the course and hope this start falling into place. Wondered about Jumper comment about the fact they shouldn't play in the WNIT. Why not get all the play time you can and get some wins.

I agree with your comments. I followed her stint at NCSU and it was not good and got worse each year. I had several friends who were so glad to get rid of her from NCSU. I think her style just will not work in the Power 5 type conferences. She tends to focus on high pressure defense (but hard to notice in the LSU game). I think she has zero ability for teaching a half count offense. AT NCSU her recruiting was also really BAD. I find it hard to believe she has solved all these issues. Perhaps at smaller schools her style might work better. These teams have less skilled players (for the most part) and a strong high pressure defense is more likely to rattle the team and allow for more fast break buckets. I think if you go back and look at ANY of her teams, you will not find a good half court motion offense. HW was a really BAD coach, but somehow was able to recruit. Perhaps this was just people thinking she might get better at coaching? Currently IMO, KH is not a good coach and not a good recruiter either.

Coach Majors???

DP responded to

John Majors, former UT football coach, called our fans the “legions of the miserable” because some people would complain about literally anything. Win 10 games, they’re mad it’s not 11. Win the SEC and they’re mad it’s not the natty. Win by 20 and they’re mad it’s not 25. He was right then and the point remains now.

The LVs ain't going to WNIT. They will make the NCAA tourney-- as a lower seed than we all (or most) had hoped for but they will enough games by SEC tourney to get in.

If not, well I will eat my "hat" (either the one made of dark chocolate, caramel, and cashews or the one that looks suspiciously like a deep dish pizza topped with Italian sausage, portabella mushrooms and red peppers).

Come to think if it, I will eat bot of those "hats" no matter where the LVs finish but y'all get my point.

If you think this is about just the one game, I am disappointed. It is the same old song and dance. Not instant success, coach not worth keeping. whine, whine, whine. Doesn't matter what sport.

Again, Even the biggest sunshine pumpers weren't expecting this team to win the SEC or go to the Final Four. I think "success" in this case would be clear improvement in the team over the course of the season and to start recruiting at an elite level. So far that's a "nope" and TBD...

I agree that they should make the tourney, and barring an epic collapse they'll do so. I do think they're going to end up playing in the second round of the SEC tournament, but that's one extra game and not as big a deal as missing the NCAA tournament outright. Which again, shouldn't happen. Though there's likely two more losses coming.

I think the WNIT talk erupted because some of us replied to the comments about Tennessee being above the WNIT. I cannot comprehend that attitude. To me, pride, especially elitism or egoistical conceit, doesn't help Tennessee with the very real work of earning back its place at the head of the table. There will come a day when Tennessee does miss the NCAA tournament. It will happen. And when it does, I hope Tennessee takes it as an opportunity and does what's best for the players on the roster, rather than what would protect an imaginary aura that Tennessee frankly hasn't had in some time. There is no shame in accepting reality There is most definitely shame in denying it, in pretending that one is better than one really is.

Now, the WNIT might be poorly run. Maybe it does not have value. Maybe it's too expensive for what it offers. Maybe it's better for the team to rehab and have work done, get surgeries out of the way. I don't know those things. The folks in the AD and the coaching staff do. We rely on them to know what's best for the kids on that roster. If they believe playing in the WNIT will help the kids on that roster, help them be better players, help the team be better for next season, then play in it. I am not going to deride the program for making that decision. The NCAA titles and SEC titles and tournament streak are not a prison to jail these young women inside until they meet some imaginary threshold of worth. Their experiences playing with each other, learning how to improve as athletes, teammates, and as students -- and most of all as people -- are what matter here.

This is what happens when your expectations get too high. This is one coach (Kelly) coaching another coaches (Holly) girls with less than a year in the program (you were bitching about Holly this time last year ).....and she is failing ? Give me a break. Tell me that in year three and you might have something....until then...well as they say. It is what it is....thanks for listening. This message was brought to you by the 'Sane People'...."they stay away from the edge of the cliff."

Do you think Pat Summitt would settle for a wnit bid?

Neither do I?

I'm kind of Hardcore that way. I also believe that everyone shouldn't get a trophy just for participation. That takes away your incentive to win.
Speaking of Pat...I’ve been watching a lot of film from 96-98 the past week on YouTube (had surgery and I’m stuck in bed) and I’m curious...why don’t more teams press any more. It seemed like EVERYONE pressed back in the day. 2-2-1, run and jump, 1-3-1...what happened? I know SC and Miss St does some but they’re the only teams that I can think of that do it on a regular basis. The women’s game has changed so much. I’d love for us to bring it back. Maybe that’s what we’re missing?

I know you're being sarcastic...but it's true...this team is NOT improving. It's hard to dislike Kellie though. Probably her looks have something to do with it...I'll be honest. Lol...but that will only get you so far. In all seriousness...it's sad to see us drop out of the top 25 again. Hopefully we get some surprise recruits that can actually live up to their billing...because Horston has not....at all. In fact..she has been one of the biggest disappointments on this team imo. I don't expect her to take the SEC by storm...but i expected more than....this.
Yep...she will be on the all freshman SEC team..just so disappointing...

Why? Only if you let it become a new standard. I need a car. I used to make enough $ to buy a BMW, but not right now. I can afford a nice Toyota. So I walk to work so as not to "lower my standards?" I'm working, after all, with total expectation of being able to buy the BMW next time around.

As far as participation trophies, I think its snowflake behavior to end the season by saying "We could play and practice more, but you guys are totally too good for those losers, our record be damned. Now go enjoy an early spring break". Talk about lettin off easy with inflated egos!
News flash!!! Toyota is a better car than BMW!!

Our full court trap and close-out traps are good. still needs some work, but good...but our half-court set-trap can be exploited. In another thread I posted this:

You trap in two fashions, just as you play offense in two fashions...in full court or in the half-court set.
In closeout traps, yes Pointer was affected, but our HC trap was set wrong

I run a 3-1-1 half court trap
3-two trap and one plays the passing lane
1-at the foul line to take on any one who thinks about going into the lane or to go out on the player who gets the ball if the 3 section is beaten
1-in the paint, given instructions to protect the rim at all costs

I give the 3 instruction..."One step in" be patient and wait for the BH to step one step over half court before trying to set a trap...Dare them to come into your side!
One step across the HC line and they can not go back across it, so you have a virtual wall to defend the backside.

We constantly set our trap against LSU on their side of the HC,,,,advantage them,,,and they exploited it

Yes, Pointer was affected by closeout traps as all players can be,,,but she had a whole gym to work with the get out of the trap and used it.

This is exactly how I feel, too. And I cannot comprehend how not playing in the postseason AT ALL is better than playing more games, and getting more experience, in a different tournament.

Has anyone noticed how many times the already-physically-compromised Lou Brown has put herself in front of charging opponents this season? Scares me to death every time, but it also tells me how much she loves to play. Because it will be the ONLY season she’ll ever play at Tennessee, I imagine if we were to leave it up to the incredibly competitive Lou Brown whether we’d play in the WNIT or be done for the sason, I’d say she’d want to continue competing.
