Massachusetts abandons airport Migrant shelter solution: ‘Not an appropriate place’

Illegal immigrants will no longer be allowed to encamp in Boston’s Logan International Airport as Massachusetts begins housing migrants in a taxpayer-funded emergency facility.

Gov. Maura Healey (D-MA) broke the news on Friday, saying that effective July 9, migrants will be banned from sheltering in the state’s largest airport. Instead, the sanctuary state will transfer migrants to a taxpayer-funded facility in Norfolk. Massachusetts is opening up an emergency shelter in a former minimum-security prison facility that will accommodate approximately 450 people.

NYC to spend Millions on New Round of pre-paid Debit Cards for Migrants

(The Center Square) — New York City officials are dramatically expanding a controversial program that gives debit cards pre-loaded with cash to migrant families staying in taxpayer-funded hotels across the city.

The Adams administration says another round of debit cards is expected to be distributed to more than 7,300 migrants over the next six months, costing the city about $2.6 million. The move represents a major expansion of a pilot program that began earlier this year that doled out cards to about 3,000 migrants.

Sanctuary Cities Crack Down On Shelter Programs After Rolling Out Red Carpet For Illegal Migrants

1720145074431.png

Democrat mayors who initially advertised their cities as welcoming sanctuaries for illegal migrants have scrambled to scale back key shelter programs as they grapple with mounting costs and community backlash.

New York City, Chicago and Denver — all self-declared “sanctuary” jurisdictions for foreign nationals living illegally in the U.S. — have moved forward with policy shifts for their migrant shelters in recent months, as their local governments grapple with the financial impact of mass illegal migration. Altogether, their taxpayers have shelled out well over $1 billion to house and feed hundreds of thousands of migrants in the past several years, a review of their spending shows. ‘Absurd and Dangerous’: Homeless, Drug-Abusing Migrants Take Over Abandoned NYC Rite Aid

A vacant building in a residential New York City neighborhood has become a hotspot for drug users, migrants, and homeless people — leaving locals to deal with their messes and safety hazards.

The 25,058-square-foot Astoria plot at 47-07 Broadway used to be the home of a Rite Aid store. The company has closed hundreds of locations as it grapples with bankruptcy.

Everything from U.S., Mexico, and Puerto Rican flags to bras, bicycles, and garbage is currently on display on the building’s roof, along with furniture on which the vagrants lounge, the New York Post reports.

The new “residents” of the building are mostly middle-aged men, many of whom appear to not speak English, according to the outlet.

NYC store owner fears business ‘won’t survive’ Rampant Shoplifting that has occurred since start of Migrant Crisis

The owner of a Queens store located within 13 blocks of 17 migrant shelters says his business “won’t survive” the rampant shoplifting it has had to endure since their arrival.

Chris Sciacco, the owner of Kaiya’s Pallets at 36-37 31st St. in Long Island City, told The Post his store is targeted as many as six times a week by migrant thieves.

“It’s not fair that these people can come into my store and steal willy-nilly and nothing gets done about it,” said Sciacco.

His variety store is a one-stop shop for food, clothing, electronics and staples such as diapers at wholesale prices — and that could be the reason it’s targeted more often than other retail stores in the nabe. It’s now bleeding at least $3,000 a month, Sciacco said.

Two Fatally Shot at New York Migrant Shelter, Police Probe Venezuelan Gang Ties

Three migrants were shot on Sunday, two fatally, in two locations — including outside the Ryerson migrant center in Brooklyn — and the New York Police Department (NYPD) suspects that members of a Venezuelan street gang are involved, according to reports.

New York Attorney General Letitia James tried to characterize the shootings as “gun violence” instead of gang violence, and in a statement said, “Last night, two people were killed and one critically injured in Clinton Hill as a result of gun violence.”

‘We Do Not Have Room’: Sanctuary State To Offer Plane Tickets For Migrants To Leave

A New England state that has long been regarded as a “sanctuary” for illegal immigrants is now dramatically scaling back its emergency migrant shelter services and offering plane rides for them to leave, according to a Tuesday announcement.

Democratic Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey announced that the state will limit stays at overflow shelters to just five days for migrants beginning next month, and that it will offer to cover plane tickets and other travel expenses for migrants who wish to leave, according to Boston 25 News. The announcement comes as Massachusetts has been rocked with waves of illegal immigrants in need of housing and other services. Here's Where Illegal Immigrants Crossing the Northern Border Are Headed

1721863485346.png

Illegal aliens who cross the northern border are headed to New York City in droves, FOX 5 New York reported this week.

Reportedly, illegals are taking advantage of the “wide open” northern border while attention is centered on the influx of crossings at the southern border in recent years (via Fox 5):

The report, released by MassInc and UMass Donahue on Wednesday, found that an estimated 480,000 residents have limited English proficiency (LEP). This makes up approximately 10% of the state's workforce. The data could be an undercount, considering that it stems from 2022 Census estimates.22 hours ago

New York Supreme Court Rules Texas Can Continue Busing Migrants to Big Apple

The New York Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit filed by Mayor Eric Adams attempting to block Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s migrant busing program. The ruling allows the State of Texas to continue busing migrants to New York City.

In a post on social media, Governor Abbott vowed to continue busing migrants from the Texas border region to New York City and other sanctuary cities. The ruling by the New York Supreme Court is the second legal victory for Abbott in as many days.

Migrant shelter moves into former NYC college dorm near ritzy Riverdale prep school: ‘Neighborhood will be destroyed’

A new migrant shelter will open next month at a former college dorm building in the Bronx’s swanky Riverdale section — angering some local residents who fear the “neighborhood will be destroyed.”

The city is putting the finishing touches on the shelter at 435 West 238th St. — a stone’s throw away from the $63,500-per-year Ethical Culture Fieldston School — which is set to open sometime in August, according to City Council Member Eric Dinowitz.

The building, previously used as off-campus Manhattan College housing, will house 95 migrant families, according to City Hall.

As furniture was being moved inside the facility on Wednesday local residents fumed over the soon-to-be shelter.

“I’m not happy to see them moving these people in here,” Hugh McGuire, 94, a Korean war vet who lives across street, told The Post. “It’s not going to be good if they’re hanging around all day with nothing to do. That’s not going to lead anywhere good.”
