Santiago Vescovi

Doesn't really jump when he has wide open 3s.

Not nearly as fast as Bone was, but he changes speed really well. He gets open all the time just by stopping and changing direction.

Maybe the best no-look passer that I've ever seen as a UT PG.
And Barnes will fix the TOs. He'll help.

Yeah, this looks like the start of something really good, but he could also flame out really quickly if he doesn't do well. It was just so hard to know what to expect with someone coming from out of country. It is looking like us optimists may have been right for once though. He may actually be all that was advertised, and just what the doctor ordered.

23 minutes, 14 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 7 turnovers (not all his fault).

Actual:
32 minutes, 18 points, 4 assists, 6 rebounds, 9 tournovers (most his fault)

6 - 9 from 3, 0 - 4 from 2.

I am surprised Coach Barnes played him as much as he did. All I can say is that he was desperate.

We are a very young team. We will take many lumps this year, but the future looks pretty good.

6-9 from 3 is really good. I would have played him too.

I like Vescovi. Sure, he turned the ball over quite a bit but I think maybe he just needs to settle in. Get used to the pace they are playing here, get used to his teammates, and understand the system in place a bit more. LSU made sure to pressure him early and often. I think he adds a nice element to the team. He scored quite well for being here a week and his first game. I knew he had a nice shooting form from the outside, but I think he's a bit better than I expected from three.

He’s good. That’s a big help. Let him develop and I could totally see him starting next year even with Johnson/Springer/Bailey

Yeah, I think a lot of those “press” TOs will get cleaned up, but he’ll probably average 5 TOs a game even so. Brings needed outside shooting though, so it’s definitely worth it

I didn’t get to see the game but sounds like he isn’t afraid to shoot.. The TOs have to stop.

Pretty good for a guy that's been in the USA for little over a week. All of his 2 pointers just fell off the rim. It is clear he is an impact player. There is just not enough around him. You can imagine how guys like Springer and Johnson will benefit from his dishes.

Yeah I just asked that because per some Pons had a little adjustment problem with coming from France and I seen a one sentence intro video on FB and SV spoke Spanish on that video.
Looks good today expecially for just 5 prctices.
Your question is legit. Communication on the court is extremely important and can be a struggle for any freshman, especially a PG. Not being able to speak the same general language as the rest of your teammates is a big problem. It held Pons back to a degree. Vescovi is fluent in English, so he's got a leg up in that department.

He is a gamer who can only get better. Good times ahead, Vols!

Honestly a week ago if anyone would have said we would get 18 pts, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal, 6 out of 9 from three pt range and yes even 9 turnovers from this kid in his first game, post maybe 3 practices with the team....anyone would take that after the mess we have witnessed the last few games against Memphis, Cincinnati and Wisconsin. He isn’t the savior given others deficiencies we have, but he already is my favorite player on the squad. If there is any hope for the rest of the season, it is because of him.

Barnes probably should incorporate more pick and roll opportunities for him at top of the key as he will struggle a bit getting separation otherwise. Slow release on his shot but goodness, when he has time to set, every time he shoots, it looks good. You can guarantee opposing coaches won’t go underneath on screens anymore against him. Coach him up to adjust to that and we are going to have a nice little playmaker for 4 years. He needs to develop a floater in the lane if he doesn’t already have that in his game.

Classy young man. I believe he will do well. You can see that in his play too, the way he takes fault for his mistakes. Could see him a couple of times stick his hand up like,"That was my bad.". You don't see that all the time, a lot of players act like they didn't do anything wrong and want to argue it.

Of course he turned the ball over a lot. Vescovi is trying to make plays and the team isn't on the same page with him yet. And he doesn't know either the full defense or offense, which means improvisation and all the good and bad that comes with it. A little streetball and a lot of dribbling. Folks not looking for or expecting passes. There's a lot for him to learn, and Barnes can teach him. You don't just plug a guy in -- he has to learn to be a part of the team, and this team is in the midst of struggling to find its identity already. A lot that can be improved with coaching. So it's a good thing we have a good coach to do that.

He is exactly what this team needs: a scorer. He has a ton of potential... no telling how good he will be once he learns the system and develops some chemistry with our players.

He has some problems with getting himself in bad positions with the ball and catching up with the speed of the game at this level. He has had only 3-4 practices and CB will be able to make him a terrific player. I see a world of talent there.

That was great to see. I kept wondering if the first few 3s were just a bit lucky but it appears he has a nice stroke.

Yeah, I mean that only example I had to go on before was the highlight video that was put on here. But in that video he was wide open, but what I noticed from it was his shooting form. Definitely has a nice stroke, just didn't know how it would translate to there being more pressure on him. But I was pleasantly surprised by some of those where the defender was right in his face. We need that outside shot with Turner out and Bowden looking rocky from there this season. Nothing seemed to be falling for Bowden today. JJJ, Pons, and Vescovi all have the potential to be outside threats. Hopefully we can improve inside now, because after seeing the way we played inside today that seems to be what we need to work on.
