Actually he's done several things (policy) to be conciliatory. Many of his policy positions are more closely aligned with the DNC platform.

Starting from a position of he's all bad and my side is all good gets us absolutely nowhere and is the epitome of divisiveness.

Not like this. Trump's entire MO is to drive the stake deeper into the heart of the country's collective identity. He insults anyone who dares disagree with him. He has no sense of empathy, no moral compass, and is greedy and unprincipled in every respect.

After Trump got the nomination, some on the left said that we were stupid for voting for him because Trump was really a New York liberal.
