He pretty much did.
Whether it happened overnight or not, anyone bringing him up as an example of a Democratic poster child for racism is defeating their own argument right out of the gate.
Mike Huckabee can piss off. He has no room to talk about harassing people and denying their equal rights under constitutional law. He's a bigot, hypocrite, and a liar.
If only the "that was in my past; I've changed" was accepted across the board when it comes to allegations of racism.
50+ years of "on the record" redemption earned his 100% rating from the ncaap. Walking the walk, as they say.
I've stated this before on the subject, forgiveness for Byrds bigotry can only be granted by those who were wronged.
In 1944, Byrd wrote the following in a letter to Senator Theodore Bilbo: "I shall never fight in the armed forces with a Negro by my side ... Rather I should die a thousand times and see Old Glory trampled in the dirt never to rise again, than to see this beloved land of ours become degraded by race mongrels, a throwback to the blackest specimen from the wilds." Byrd filibustered the 1964 Civil Rights Act for 14 hours
Huckabees hilarious, plus a good morally sound person.
IMO youre way off basis, but thats just me. It would be funny to see yall debate on air. How long would you last, before caving you think?
I don't disagree with any of that.
But can you imagine anybody with an R after their name lasting 5 seconds after this was uncovered?

His yuck yuck, I'm a funny Southern dude thing wouldn't work with me, I'm from the South.
But he would get the better of me in a debate because he would constantly go back to Christianity. He was a pastor, correct? I wouldn't be able to debate the finer points of his Baptist (I think) faith.
