Saturday morning practice #16

Is it an open scrimmage tonight? Or just another practice? I'd love to see some stats on how it's all coming together in a game-like scenario.

I'd say it will be a practice with some high pressure game like situations. They just had a scrimmage the other night, so I doubt they'll do that again. But I think you'll see several kicking drills....he'll probably do Circle of Life...and just do some clean up fundamental drills probably. Won't do too much is my guess.

I was wondering the same thing. I was there last year but the rain seemed to scar my memory of how it all went down.

Lol@Coach Jones playing the Eric Berry song. This guy is relentless. I'm thinking he has higher expectations of the Berry bros than the whole fan base

I think you're right.

Not a knock on the Berry bros, but 1) we pretty much knew they were Vol locks for the last three years anyway, 2) parenthetically a lot of us are star-gazers, and they were high-3*'s, possibly overshadowed by the Hurds and Malones of our FRIGGIN MASSIVE 31-player class, and 3) in no way could/should anyone expect them to be the immediate 5* TrFr contributor Eric was. Eric is a generational kind of player. Not saying they can't be that kind of player in the future, but they'll have to work hard over time.

That said, Eric Berry is still fresh on the mind of every Vols fan out there, and his little bros following his footsteps is the essence of Tennessee family, VFL, etc.

I've never been this excited for Football Time In Tennessee.

Hurd's pad level has sure improved from spring. He just keeps getting better and better. Sure like the quick feet of the RBs. Hopefully, it will translate into extra yards.

With Kamara and Reid coming in next year you really got like our RB depth chart going forward.

In 2015
Hurd - So
Scott - So
Kamara - Jr
Paulk - RSFr
Reid -Fr

Eric, Kamara will be a redshirt sophomore, I believe.

It may have just been that they just wanted to give Moseley a break and wanted Williams to see how he worked with the first time.

Haven't seen anything to make me think that Moseley has been put in the doghouse. Quite the opposite. I think they're just trying to test Williams.
Oh I definitely agree.

Moments later Gillespie was all over freshman Jalen Hurd like a cheap suit after Hurd wandered too wide on a swing-pass drill, meandering well outside an intern waiting to belt him with a blocking pad. Forced to run the drill again, Hurd did much better this time. Still, Gillespie followed him for 15 yards barking at him. Clearly, the coaching staff is pushing Hurd to be ready to play a key role in Game 1.

Thanks for all the info you provide fingers. I'm beginning to think that the 31st will never get here. I'm just thankful for my high school football right now to help fill the void. Anyone know when Boerne's first game will be?

What's up with the orang knee pads/shin guards?

They wear those when they are dressed in "shells". Shells is helmet, shoulder pads and short pants. With regular football pants (full pads) those aren't used.

Notice the difference between the last two practices.

I agree basically but I hope Kamara comes in and pushes Scott for second team reps - I like Scott so far but if both are challenging each other than that is a good sign for the position. And Paulk should be fully recovered, too.

Anyone heard information on if the entire practice will be open to the public and the media? I'm hoping to get a fair amount of video like we've seen from the practices so far.

I saw a VN poster in another thread said "probably won't do much" about Jones & Cos. Plans for this open practice, but Jones said the practice is huge to see who's ready to perform on game day under the lights. Of course we will see the kickers put in with as high pressure situations as possible, but will we see the #1 go against the #1 D for a series or two just to see how the Oline and Dlines fair, Hurd, Malone, Wolf and Worley all under the lights 30-60k fans watching.

Just my itch to see some actual football I'm sure but I'm hoping to see more than walk throughs, drills and circle of life.

Agreed! And it seems to me so far he is answering that challenge nicely.... Still early though. But I love the way e works
