Saw a player today at the Walmart

Jackson - No, I did not hang around to see if he bought anything. But it's much the same as me being down at the Mellow Mushroom and seeing my pastor standing at the bar trying to decide what beer he wanted. It's just the appearance that aint right man.

I think we are talking about several different things here.

1) In some religions, a pastor should not be in a bar. That is guilt by association.
2) A pastor standing at a bar in a Mellow Mushroom, might be asking for a napkin. Seated at the bar might be a different story.
3) If my wife is shopping at Wal-Mart, I might look at knives or guns just to help pass the time. I perhaps had no intention of buying one.
4) Is John Q Public going to know this guy is a basketball player? I mean, yes he is tall. Did he have on his jersey with name on back or something?

If you didn’t even see him buy the bb gun, then there is probably just a 50/50 chance he even bought one.

In a court of public opinion, you don’t have enough info for a case here imho.

Jackson - Does it make a difference to you if the pastor actually goes ahead and buys a tall lager? Does it make a difference to you if the kid actually bought the bb gun?

Also, I don't know about you, but I am not a pastor nor am I a TN basketball player. Thus, that is the important distinction in my mind about the situation.

As far as recognizing the player, I don't know about the public at large. However, if you watch TN basketball, you would know who it is/was. No jersey or name. But that certainly didn't stop Lane (I'll piss on his grave someday) Kiffin from complaining that there was no privacy in Knoxville - everybody seemed to know who he was.

I'm not assuming that anybody is holding up anything. That dude just did not need to be on that aisle - gift or no gift. It's the appearance that is important despite his intent.
If it was McBee would you have assumed he was getting something to hunt with? Why dont you just mind your own business.

Yeah, I think it does. A pastor in a Church of Christ is allowed to go to a Mellow Mushroon and obtain a napkin from the bar. Some random tall guy looking at a BB gun is really no big deal. I am extremely sensitive to the perception issue. If the player was departing a gun shop, carrying a clear package that showed a pistol would be one thing. But just absent mindingly looking at a BB gun in the local WalMart? I choose to treat the young men as adults until they prove that they need to be treated as children.

you must be Baptist...and who says he is buying beer. I do not drink, but I have been at a bar plenty.

I've seen a player at my apartment with a female.

We don't need these guys being distracted or taking part in unclean, brutish acts of the body.
