Say what you want about the South Carolina game

I don't get people and their PC "you can't blame the refs" nonsense. It's BS. People keep saying we didn't stop them so it doesn't matter. It absolutely matters. It's hard to sack a QB behind an SEC o-line. It's even harder when the o-line is allowed to hold without getting flagged.

I mean you can complain, it’s a free country, and this is a fan message board and the place to do it. That said, I don’t really see the point. If some key bad decisions in a close game directly results in a loss it might make more sense to be angry. Even then they can only rob you with bad calls if you haven’t played well enough to be in a position where they can’t. Every game there are missed and bad calls, and every game the losing team has fans complaining about officiating. The old saying goes winners win, losers complain about the refs.

How they call holds can indeed affect a team’s pass rush, but that doesn’t make it malicious. It also shouldn’t have resulted in losing to a team you are favored by over 3 touchdowns to beat in a historically bad fashion. It’s also something the coaches and teams have no control over, while there are plenty of things to fix that they do.

As fans we can care about whatever, but I would rather talk about what can be fixed personally, but everyone is different.

Why would the league purposefully screw themselves out of tens of millions of dollars by having us lose?

Some of you all need to use your brain before putting your loser mentality out in the open. USCe whipped our ass, plain and simple...

It's comical at this point; this it the same type behavior we destroy other fanbases for and yet here we are doing the same exact crap.

If any team got hosed Saturday by the league looking out for its $$$, it was Illinois, not us...

The league had all the incentive for us to win financially. We just sh-t the bed...

Please give your rationale for that? The only thing I can figure is they actually ejected one of their guys, but that is only because that is a reviewable matter and you can't hide from video evidence. None of those no calls on all their blatant holds were reviewable unfortunately.

My rationale? My rationale!? Why Long, my post stated, JMO = Just My Opinion, in case you don't know. Opinions have no rationale.

They missed some obvious holding calls but it matters little cause we didn’t come to win that game and weren’t winning that game we played like shite.

We may lose that same game 5 out of 10 more times, but I think it had little to do with talent, schemes, or officiating. They might’ve lost the game anyway, but I’m in the camp that says there was some 💩 in the punch bowl…..that had nothing to do with subpar athletic abilities.

This NPC take is NPCish. How can playing more physically help when the calls are already blatantly against you? And how does "playing more physically" address all the no calls on blatant holds that helped them get big passing play after big passing play?
I’d like to see the UT players fight through contact and go get the ball, all I’m saying, not be so soft at the first hint of physical play.

Man, you can’t blame the refs for getting 63 hung on the defense.

I don’t know what NPC means in this context and by no means am I saying they called a perfect game. In fact, I laughed when Herbstreit said “great block” when the fullback reached back and grabbed the UT rusher on the edge, right in front of the white hat.

Make no mistakes the Refs did not cost us this victory. But in no way were they good, in fact had we played better they looked poised to stop it. They didn’t call 1 hold on them all night and I saw 3-4 that were bad and should have been called. They called 2 holds on us that were ticky tack compared to the ones Carolina made. Our receiver got mugged on the sidelines once with the ref 5 yards away. Even the booth was stunned of the no call. They way we played made their terrible calls and no calls irrelevant. I did see one hold Tennessee got away with that was way worse than the 2 weak ones they called on us. They did help USC O-Line out more than anything. 3-4 terrible holds that I saw and not 1 call for holding. But our play gives us no gripe, we just got beat. GBO

Every time we lose, it’s the refs fault. In this game, even if we haven’t gotten our asses handed to us, the refs would not have let us win.
Ok, I get it.

Yeah i'd like to see that too. I did see several hook and holds that for some reason did not get called. Those were blatant and i don't get it. Still not the reason we gave up a ton of points to the lamecocks. **** defensive effort was the main reason. It's as if they had somewhere better to be.

So the theory is....financially well-off fan bases of other teams, presumably potential playoff teams, wielded sufficient influence to get the refs to throw the game South Carolina's way? South Carolina?
Shame they wasted their money…

Yes, we played poorly and eventually gave up, but I got the impression that the refs weren't going to let us win no matter what even if we had shown up and played our A-game. We finally got a stop and they called a ticky tack pass interference to keep their drive alive. We got ticky tack penalties on our offensive drives too, but it was the exact opposite for South Carolina. They could hold with impunity and commit blatant pass interference penalities right in front of officials without being flagged. Also, the game was very chippy with South Carolina players initiating a lot of it and the refs refused to throw flags there too. The game was as poorly officiated as our performance on the field was bad. Everything about that game effing sucked. It literally felt like the refs were doing everything to help them and everything to hurt us. Oh well, let's hope we can rebound from this quickly and get a win in Nashville.
SCar played their best football in a decade on Saturday. The atmosphere, the noise, the trash talking, the hype, the dangerous field, no Banks All those things had a impact on the game. Refs were a footnote in this game.

It wasn't our year for a playoff run. CJH needs a decent defense before he can take this program to the next level. Going to be fun to watch!

Lol……seriously…….LOL!!!!!

If Tennessee had shown up and the D played at least SunBelt worthy…….Tennessee wins. Nothing the refs could have done about it.

SC scored just 50 on SC State, they averaged about 21 vs SEC teams. The D didn’t have to be good…….just show up. And Tennessee could take care of business.

My goodness………”the refs wouldn’t even have let them”

If we had lost by 7, 10…hell maybe even 14. You could say that bad officiating had something to do with it. We lost by 25 and that was only after a garbage time touchdown. Had we lost by 25 to Georgia you could say “we have work to do, we aren’t elite yet”. But, we lost by 25 to a lower tier team which says that the team either wasn’t prepared, didn’t care or a combination thereof. Hopefully it’s a learning experience for some of these young guys to never want to feel that way again.

Not even remotely the same, but I remember in HS getting embarrassed and the way that it felt. It was a sick feeling.

Honest question. Do you really believe SC scored the way they did because we just had an off night and got a few bad calls?
