This history goes back to the 1970 and 1971 UT vs South Carolina football games which we easily won and the 1970 UT vs South Carolina basketball game when they were #1 in the country and we beat them 20-18 with the Jimmy England led stall ball. My friends endured about 35 years of Volunteer abuse, so when Steve Spurrier came along they stared to crow. They had been gracious losers, but when they started to win they became poor winners.Make sure you remind them daily that their signature program wins are keeping other programs out of the CFP.
Then remind them to make sure and put their third place SECE trophy back in their trophy case so it won't look so empty.
But but what if they somehow beat us again? I
No sorry we don’t. He caused the locker room distraction. The team wasn’t focused. Ask yourself this question. At any point in time last year did we look as bad we did against any other team? Did we look as bad as we did against LSU? UGA? Bsma? UK? Missouri? Clemson? No we didn’t. That game was easily one of the worst games of Heupels career here. And it just so happens to coincide with Banks acting like a little ***ch.
You can forgive him for costing us a spot in the playoffs. But I won’t.
I think you have to look at the disparity in talent of the Wyoming/Memphis/Georgia St. games though, those teams had nowhere approaching the talent Tennessee had. South Carolina and Tennessee were pretty evenly matched talent wise last year. We were 19th on the team talent composite and they were 21st.Those were some rough ones for sure, but I was referring to the defensive performance, or lack thereof. Giving up 63 to South Carolina and just the way it happened. I don’t think they punted all game. At least against Wyoming and Memphis, the defense actually somewhat executed, we just couldn’t score. And Georgia State, yeah, we couldn’t even get lined up but we still didn’t give up almost 70.
Heupel has a smidge of pettiness in him. He’ll embarrass the dirt peckers in Neyland next year. Watch and see.Make sure to bookmark this guy. I don't think there are going to be a lot of games that go that way in their favor for the next several years.
They're probably going to be beaten by UNC to open the season this year. They then get Furman, UGA, and MSU before walking into Neyland to face a team that probably won't have to play safeties at CB. I like Heupel's chances to make an impression... and not call the dogs off like he did two years ago.
I get that South Carolina has talent but that was still one of the worst defensive performances I’ve ever seen. Anyway I’m sure the coaches and players learned from it and will pay it back in full during this year’s game. I hope anyway.I think you have to look at the disparity in talent of the Wyoming/Memphis/Georgia St. games though, those teams had nowhere approaching the talent Tennessee had. It’s a must win game for me. It’s personal. 4 of my best friends from high school went to South Carolina. They are poor winners.
