SC will not play UCONN

I always thought that was an ACC thing. It is harder to win the regular season than the tournament. Any good team can get hot and win the tournament over a weekend. I will agree it looks like it is more of a celebration for the tournament championship.
Even though some ACC teams hang banners and called themselves regular season champions for finishing in 1st place, the conference itself per league rules only recognizes the tournament winner as ACC champions. Finishing 1st in ACC just means that you're the number one seed in the ACC tournament.

She saved you guys a national embarrassment on ESPN and you still want to throw shade. You should send her a tweet thanking her and move on.

Truth!!!!

It very well could have been a beat-down so complete that the Huskies would have nightmares about it for years. But they were handed a free pass from all that. It could mean their luck is returning, so they really ought to just hush up and be grateful that the highlights of SC beating the crap out of them won’t be available to air over and over again in future years.

The SEC recognizes the regular season champ as the league champion. The tournament winner gets the automatic bid to the NCAA. Make no mistake about it, in the SEC it's the regular season champ that goes into the book as the conference champion.

yeah. I knew it was a bit snarky when I posted it. I really believe the 100 grand is a secondary or tertiary motivator. Actually I was hoping to play SCAR again. The best scenario for me would have been for our players to have fought hard to keep the final deficit under 15.

If all you want is an SEC Title you worry about Ole Miss. If you a national stage with a real meaningful game you play UCONN. Dawn is scared and reacting to it

Not very intelligent. South Carolina has already beaten Connecticut handily on a neutral court, when Connecticut was mostly healthy. They had Muhl and Griffin out, while SC at the time had backup PG Johnson and super senior Grissett out. If South Carolina beats CT again this week, most people nationally would be saying, "so what? You beat them when they were stronger, now they are hobbled???" There's no benefit to play them at this time, beyond a full capacity crowd and the ticket revenue.

The "meaningful stage" against CT came in November at the Battle 4 Atlantis. It could still possibly come again should they meet in the NCAAT - CT should be more healthy for that one anyways. What matters more now - not for YOU or for the nation, but for Staley and South Carolina - is the game with Ole Miss. And Tennessee still needs to see if they can do against Connecticut what South Carolina already did to them this season....

I've read many posts in this thread, and they concern me.

Do Vol fans really not know that South Carolina and Connecticut have already played a game against each other already this season? Not on anyone's home floor, but on a neutral court? And South Carolina won that game, decisively. Back when Connecticut was mostly healthy.

This 2nd game would not only have been a totally redundant match-up, but it would have been a far paler version of the original game, with several key players for CT out for the contest. I'm not sure why people here are so angry about SC scheduling a SEC opponent in their place. Maybe fans here just want to have the SEC regular-season title laid in their laps, instead of actually going out and earning it on a level playing field......

Although we'd like to play UConn at home there's little to be gained. Our Lady G's have already soundly defeated them when they weren't short handed. Playing an SEC make up game so we aren't handicapped by playing fewer games is the right thing to do. It would be great to win the SEC regular season but isn't it more prestigious to win the SEC tournament?
To me the regular season title is more important. You’ve maintained excellence for months. You’ve won with kids out with injuries and in hostile environments. The tournament title is a four day crapshoot. Whose top players are healthy? Who has a star out. Some team’s fans do travel better but it is usually not an hostile environment. The tournament is super fun and cutting down the nets is a great experience but to me the regular season title says more about your program.

Many SC fans remember their days in the ACC when only the ACC tournament winner advanced.

The way the SEC does it they recognize the regular season champion as the regular season champion and the SEC tournament champion as the tournament champion. The tournament champion gets the automatic bid to the NCAA tourney so this tourney gives supposedly teams like Vandy, Auburn etc a chance to get in the tourney. We know there are seldom upsets but it is nice to give a 7 and 20 team a chance to believe. The regular season SEC Championship was here long before the tourney. I think the tourney came about because it was another huge opportunity to make more money. The SEC will recognize both the SEC regular season and tourney champions as individual champions that is how it is done in the SEC.

For some SEC teams the SEC tournament is more like a warm up for the big dance and to help with seeding. I guess the conference tournament could indicate which teams are peaking or which teams might have issues going into the big dance.

For the teams not assured of a NCAAT bid then the SEC Tournament is extremely important. It is their last chance to make it to the big dance.

For many teams in other conferences the conference tournament is very important since only the conference tournament winner goes to the big dance.

I personally have never seen the need for an SEC team in the middle of their schedule playing UCONN. It does nothing much more than aid UCONN teams early on in the tournament. Give them no help in what to expect.

Started by Pat as a showcase to grow the game, a big midseason national tv event. It used to be a huge deal, a game even people who didn't watch WBB would tune into.

Very true. Specially during our AAC days playing a really good opponents in January and February was very important as a tune up for the NCAA. Forty point wins don't help you prepare for a dog fight. It's our hope that the Big East reverts to its days when the league was relevant. Or the long shot that Jim Mora can really turn the football program around and we can get into a good conference.

EDIT: after reading this it appears to me that Geno knew you Lady Vols would be very good this year or he wouldn't have scheduled the game as late in the year.

UConn FB is never going to make it into a power 5 conference, not only because the product is so bad, but the market just isn’t there financially for any P5 conference to even sniff UCONN. Also, If you think Mora is a program savior think again.

Is Thursday the only date available to reschedule the Ole Miss game? Seems like a lot of chicken defense going on for there to be nothing to it.

Looking at S. Carolina’s schedule, about their only open dates are 2/6 or 2/7, but UConn is playing someone on 2/6.

If they abandon football would have to abandon sports in general. Still has to be their biggest revenue sport cause all the rest are losing big money.
UConn Ath Dept loses over $40 million per year currently, even FB is a big money loser there running an annual deficit of over $15 million per year, it’s a wasted trip man.
