the four-star athlete from dutch fork high school in irmo, s.c., confirmed to govols247 on wednesday that he was on his way to tennessee to join the vols as a late addition to their 2018 recruiting class after visiting them twice over the past few months.
"i'm heading there now," thompson told govols247 on wednesday afternoon.
First-session summer classes at tennessee are scheduled to start on thursday, and most of the vols' remaining class of 2018 signees have arrived in knoxville over the past few days.
The 6-foot, 180-pound thompson originally committed to virginia tech in july 2016 before parting ways with the hokies in june. He then committed to nearby south carolina in december, but he didn't sign with the gamecocks and continued exploring other options after signing day.
