'18 SC WR Bryce Thompson (UT commit 5/30/18)

I think it’s really cool that a ‘20 commit is telling an ‘18 signee “welcome to the family”

In 37 years of coaching, Tom Knotts has coached some great football players. The list includes Chris Leak, Brian Knuckles, Hakeem Nicks, Mohamed Massaquoi and Joe Cox from his time coaching in North Carolina. Since he has been at Dutch Fork, he has coached the likes of Lane Ecton, Jordan Berry, Chad Geter and Matt Colburn among others.

Those players have lofty credentials. Some who have gone on to play in college, win national titles and play in the NFL.

But according to Knotts, none of them were better than senior receiver/defensive back Bryce Thompson, who has played a big role in helping Dutch Fork to its fifth state title appearance in the past seven seasons. “He is the best I’ve coached in 37 years,” Knotts said. “Bryce can do anything. In addition to his abundance of talent, he has a determination that is unmatched by any player I have ever coached. Everybody says they want to win and got the will to win, Bryce is determined. He is the most determined player I ever coached. He is not going to be denied.”

Gamecock target Bryce Thompson doing it all for Dutch Fork | The State

Article from December: "Most of the in-person looks over the last 10 months were of Thompson playing on the offensive side of the ball, and he was always one of the most impressive performers, if not the most. During the camp circuit last spring, he tore it up as a wide receiver. Thompson was one of the top performers at the Rivals stop in Charlotte, where he was virtually uncoverable. His followed that up with what pretty much amounted to a repeat performance when The Opening made its annual stop in the Queen City.

Fast-forward to the summer, when Thompson visited for multiple Will Muschamp Football Camp sessions. He worked out on both sides of the ball, but received extra attention from defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson, who’s long-viewed him as a nickel back and/or cornerback.

This week, during Shrine Bowl practice, Thompson is playing wide receiver. Just as he’s done in camp settings during the summer and on Friday nights during the fall, Thompson has looked like a fluid, natural pass-catcher. Out of the slot, he’s lethal. Working as a jet-sweep and motion-man, he’s pretty darn solid."

What South Carolina is getting in 3-star ATH Bryce Thompson

South Carolina recruited Bryce Thompson as a defensive back, but the Dutch Fork senior put his offensive skills on display Saturday. Thompson caught seven passes for 165 yards and one touchdown to earn Most Outstanding Player honors for the South Carolina team in the 55-24 loss to North Carolina.

“It doesn’t matter where they need me at South Carolina,” Thompson said. “I will give 100 percent to play no matter what. If they need me on offense in the beginning or midseason, that is fine with me. But if they want me on defense, that is also fine with me.”

One of the best boom ever because the 10 just walked up out of the blue then pulled you up out of your chair and led you to the car then BOOM.

Its a new regime you are gonna have to stop worrying about numbers...in with the quality out with the quantity.

Not worried. Understand that they’re doing a talent transformation...but numbers are fun. :)

kid didnt look like fastest on the field. neither did Kamara. Cordarrelle was just a freak. I dont think ill ever see that type of speed, athleticism, and balance at UT again.

If we're unfairly comparing a HS athlete to kids who are in the NFL, ill add what seems to separate these kids that have it all vs others, even Cordarrelle is football smarts. Alvin was a student of the game. He was also, sneaky fast. this kid is sneaky fast, seems to play hard.

good get. #ijustwatchedhudl #notd4h
