'19 SC WR/DB Kenney Solomon (Tennessee signee)

No school in America needs speed more than Tennessee. Tennessee used to be the “speed school” in the country but last 4 or 5 yrs very little effective speed has been recruited. Team is too slow at practically every critical position.
You can say that again.....

Here, I’ll say it for you.....”No school in America needs speed more than Tennessee. Tennessee used to be the “speed school” in the country but last 4 or 5 yrs very little effective speed has been recruited. Team is too slow at practically every critical position.”

From Griddie on Volquest:

Good coaching friend down there has talked about this kid all year. Said he had legit speed and loves to hit. Good size as well and a hard worker. Guy knows his stuff. Pruitt and this staff can flat out find and evaluate talent. If he’s a Vol then I’m fine with it. He looks like a good prospect on his film.

Some of y’all are still so shook from butch and Dooley that you can’t trust Pruitt to evaluate a DB? 😂Sad!
There were how many high ranked In-state DBs this year?? And they all signed to power 5 schools.
Yet, UT only really recruited Hampton.

And they legit want this kid...

Pruitt knows DBs better than anyone.
He took Mr. Football 2018 from South Carolina and Tennessee and made them into stellar CBs their freshman year! They were offensive players and he turned them into possibly two of the top 5 defensive players on the team! Thats crazy...

Even though we went 5-7 and gave a ton of yardage some games, those two were ballers.

Personally, I think he gave up on Otey to easily, but this 2 star from South Carolina is better. He's better than some guys in Georgia and Florida too!

10.7 100 meter
Sub 22.00 in the 200.
That's impressive!

Not very big but looks plenty physical.
Great instincts. Not sure why this kid is a 2 star. He's clearly the best player on the field.

Has an offer from UCF....
That didn't mean much 4 years ago. Now, absolutely does. They're putting DBs in the NFL.

And he has a good Football Name.
Speed’s legit. But his actual ball skills are what has me wondering. Did his film never get passed around? He’s not just trying to get the ball, he’s trying to House it. Susceptible to double moves? And if he’s even close to 6’ then where’s even the speculative offers?

Just wondering. Pruitt is the DB whisperer until he ain’t.

His school doesn't get much exposure. I don't believe he camped?? Not sure exactly.
Has a UCF offer.

Personally, I love that the kid attacks the ball. Did you watch Bama's freshman 5 star Surtain get abused by the 3rd WR on Oklahoma's team? And he's not alone.
More and more DBs are playing with "loser" habits. DBs used to understand that the ball was up for grab when in the air. Now they just play the WRs eyes and get abused over and over...

The rule changes are a part of it. But you can still play the ball...
And it's a dying art.

That's why I HATE 7 on 7 camps...it just teaches DBs that's it okay to get beat....
It's NOT.

The gap in coaching between Surtain and the older DBs was so obvious last year. And guys like Tae and Thompson getting Pruitt’s “love” just showed how much Bama fell off last year. 5-star CB talent vs a couple of guys who camped as WRs.

I like this kid... He is another one of those 2 way athletes that Pruitt covets.
Could easily be another Deandre Baker... I’ll never doubt a Pruitt defensive back offer. I remember being pissed Alontae got moved to corner. Then being livid Bryce Thompson would start out on defense...lulz

Got to agree with you here. Our corners have been so pathetic outside of Cam Sutton. Good thing our current coach comes from an old school style of corner play and it’s his specialty. Either you play the ball or you move to safety

I can’t say THIS enough!

Yeah.
And to be quite honest, it has hurt the game of football a good bit.

So many DBs nowadays have no real confidence in their athletic ability...and not a complete understanding of the game.

Cam Sutton came in Fall camp and won the CB spot easily as a freshman. Because it wasn't alien to him to play the football. Plus he was the most athletic and knew he was...

Call me a star gazer but I would be disappointed if we took this guys commitment. I understand DB’s is CJP specialty but Solomon being part of this class means we missed out on guys higher on our board. If we was to take a project much rather it be a defensive linemen or just use the extra spot for one of or both of the transfers we have coming in. Flame away...

So will you still be disappointed if Solomon beats out fields or Burrell for playing time next year?
Complicated question. I’d potentially be more disappointed in Fields and Burrell if that scenario happened. I’d be happy to eat crow on this if Solomon was to come here hopefully he’d be a great player, but like I said him being part of this class means we miss on multiple guys.

Feel the same way. I’ll root for the kid naturally but If he’s a take then we missed on way too many guys.

Last year we reached for projects like Kenneth George and Brandon Davis. Neither contributed. I get BT & AT, but personally I’d rather roll with the Burrell, Fields, and other kids we’ve already signed as opposed to taking another diamond in the rough type.

Especially if it means cutting into our 2020 numbers.

Not sure if it's been posted in here already, but he attends the same school Hunter Renfrow went to. I think he turned out pretty good in college.

I know that doesn't automatically mean Solomon will be a great college player. Just saying the high school has turned out a really good player who went overlooked before.

Not only did he go to the same high school Hunter Renfrow attended, he also plays the same position Deion Sanders played and he turned out pretty good. Also plays the same sport Trevor Lawrence plays, and he turned out okay. Lives in the same country as Reggie White, and he was decent. Breathes oxygen just like Walter Payton and he turned out okay.

Just sayin.....

I literally just said I'm not trying to say he's going to be just like Renfrow, but thanks for your sarcasm, you prick.

I'd be fine with taking him. He looks pretty good to me. Speed, length and physical

The best way to defend the RPO offense is to put 4 fast, long, athletic & physical corners on the field at the same time. Need to cover, adjust quickly & tackle at corner vs 4 wide to defend it.

Pruitt knows what he is doing guys.
