Schaeffer or Ainge

I think it will take a complete disaster like a 1-3 start for us to see Crompton.

From what I am hearing (for what it is worth) there may be a quicker trigger on Ainge than you think.

I don't think so. To me, that seemed to be the problem last year. But then again who knows, last year they would pull him out after he led the team down the field to score.

would'nt it be weird if Ainge did get pulled and benched in the cal game and Crompton turned out to be 300yrds/3 td's/0 ints...in almost every game?

I think that the clarification of expectations by Cut will lead to changes in the way personel is handled. In other words they will be looking for improvement in specific areas or else. Judging by your post we both agree that there was way too much ambiguity in QB decisions last year.

What I'm looking forward to is seeing BS squeak through a different school. I'm not saying he's an idiot. But I've heard of him squeaking through courses before. We'll see if Ole Miss is strict on the academic standards or the need for QB's.

Schaeffer is decent guy with tons of natural talent.

For his efforts against South Carolina alone, in his only year wearing the power "T", he has my thanks and best wishes.

I hope we see him in the championship game.... B)

If the same crap with QB's that happened last year happens this year, we are screwed. I say put Ainge in, until he plays consistently terrible. Not like last year, where he got yanked as soon as a three and out. He has a fragile ego that needs to be cared for in order for him to play well. I know a lot of you don't like that trait, and neither do I. But instead of simply yanking him, build his confidence. You can't sit around and hope for a great QB to come along and simply play great no matter what. You gotta have confidence in the field general and make sure he's got a decent offense to rely on.

My Prediction:

Schaeffer: Passing: 1,821 yards 14 TD's 8 INT's Rushing: 694 yards 7 TD's

Ainge: 2,583 yards 22 TD's 7 INT's

If Schaeffer has an offense that requires him to Rush for 694 yards, the boy will spend the last half of next season in the hospital. The beating he will take trying to put that many rushing yards will be a physical disaster for him. The hitting in SEC will be devastating on that skinny frame of his.

I wish the boy well, however.

Actually (unheralded) Johnathan Crompton may be better than both if he's given a fair shot. The other aforementioned have had chances and proven ify at best (so far). :dunno:

Maybe we should have a 2 QB system this season. :ermm:

None of that, but after Ainge has his chance and if it doesn't work out, we have no choice but to change. :dunno:

Schaeffer is screwed when he gets back to the SEC. People tend to forget the reason why he wasnt the starter last year was cause not only did he scramble and get knocked the hell out by USC, but he sucked worse the Clausen and Ainge is spring training. Not to mention he also had trouble with the law. Schaeffer is going no where. Putting up good numbers in JUCO doesn't make you a sec QB.

That's not accurate from what I remember. I remember hearing good things about him from his last spring practice at UT.

I watched some of those videos from his JUCO games and remembered getting chills thinking that if he was still in orange how different our season could have been. I'm sure many people will be following BS during the season just out of curiosity whether they like him or not.

At least he put up good numbers somewhere last year. That's more than anyone we currently have on campus can say.

Would it have really been that much different?

We would still rely on passes in the 5-7 yard range and more than likely BS would have gotten hurt scrambling once again.

Then again maybe having Ainge come in after BS would have resulted in a year like his freshman season.

I still do not buy into having a running back taking snaps at quarterback.

We have never had a running back at quarterback.

Sure we haven't........... :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

BS, along with others like him are glorified running backs and or athletes playing quarterback.

I am not diminishing runnings skills as a mean of escape, but looking first to run at quarterback will get you no where.

***Excludes the obvious which is an option offense.********

*****Someone will bring up Vince Young.....Young won when he improved his passing skills....**********

At least he put up good numbers somewhere??? The guy was playing aginst a bunch of scrubs that couldn't make it to a D1 school. Do you know how bad he would have had the crap knocked out of him if he tryed half the juke and run crap in the SEC? Do I NEED to remind you about how he thought he could do it aginst USC and they proceeded to break his collar bone? He is no better then Ainge and if you think that he is and you wish we still had him you are insane. The man was about to be kicked out of school before he transfer'd and all he was doing was causing trouble off campus. That was half our problem last year, undisciplined guys. Now your saying that you guys still wished we had him? seriously??

Not at all what I said. My comment was more a reflection of how pathetically Danny's Overrated Nephew played for the Vols last year.
