im thankful we didn’t hire him for multiple reasons but mostly because he is overrated as a coach and if we didn’t get Cornbread we might not have Danny and Josh.

The punter made the correct decision given the formation Rutgers presented. It's not his job to "consider the score". Schiano put in a punt blocking formation, he SHOULD HAVE KNOWN that a well trained punter might take advantage of it. That's the risk HE CHOSE to take. No different than when HE CHOSE to risk the onside kick in the first quarter, and lost his bet.
Wrong…don’t like either Coach..punter should know better , he ran OB on his side and thought he was safe and cute…a “see me” moment. Just kick the ball and take the W home. Egotistical coaches . Don’t think I have ever seen that in a blowout . Sure ,it is his job to know the score , every player should know the score.
he took advantage of the situation and they did too. Not SEC caliber play.
kicker took a chance, wonder if he knows the score now. One more a well trained punter would have got down

I dont blame Schiano. OSU ran a fake punt up 40 in the 4th quarter and the Rutgers guy who blasted the punter was getting smacked by OSU players on the sideline.

I have no issue with Schiano acting that way after what OSU did...
Ah...first thing I looked at was the score. Now we have some context. I'm no Sciano fan...or Day for that matter, but letting your backups run the offense and score while up big is one thing. Faking a punt? If that was the punter being hit late, I can see the frustration. Not excusing it, but at some point, players will react in the heat of the moment.

I questioned the hiring of Schiano based on his terribly thin resume. We're supposed to be impressed that he took a typically average school to a bowl game? The ties to the abuse charges were just icing on the cake.

Ya as hard as it is to conceive…schiano would’ve been even worse than Pruitt. It goes back to Currie. How on earth could that dweeb have been so freakin dumb when it comes to something like that? He’s obviously not a “dumb” guy. But definitely not smart in that particular area. And truthfully…Fulmer is an idiot too. How could a guy that was once a national championship winning coach be so out of touch with todays game. He sat with Pruitt and thought ya…he’s the rockstar I want leading our program. Wow. Dumb and Dumber apparently

The wild part is after missing on Mullen, Currie and Haslam went all in on Schiano. Like where was that energy and commitment to Mullen. He easily would have been better hire by long shot over Schiano and Pruitt.

And then Fulmer goes all in on Pruitt. Talk about a comedy of errors. Said it on the other thread and will say it again. Anybody who thought Schiano was/is a good fit at UT is a moron. And that includes Kirk Herbstreit.

I really wish we would have gone with Mel Tucker instead when it was down to him or Pruitt.

I've never seen any evidence linking Haslam to that hire, not saying you're wrong, but I would to see it.
Haslam blew up the Browns front office bc of the way Schiano was done during their interview of him. Belichek and Meyer both stamped their approval on Schiano, Banner basically didn’t want him Haslam did. Banner made it apparent in the interview that he didn’t want him. Those are some of the ties to Schiano. Meyer also was talked to after Butch was fired and again recommended Schiano. After Mullen fell through that’s where they went. You definitely can find the info easily about the Browns deal going south.

People acting like Schiano was a better hire than Pruitt are clueless. It wasn’t Pruitt or Schiano, it was Pruitt or Schiano and Haslam continuing to run the AD into the ground. Haslam hires ruined that AD, Fulmer sucked too but just demonstrated how clueless our leadership was. Finally got serious and did a real search without major meddling and got White.

No Fulmer sat there thinking I can control this guy and he is not smarter than me. Kind of like how he ran his assistant coaching staff at UT. Just another reason why the "entitled" thinking fool got canned twice.

Exactly. Fulmar was out coaching on the sidelines and got busted for it. He really did think he could weasel his way back in if Pruitt didn’t work out and resume coaching.

Well, that is like accusing someone of murder without any evidence. This is like starting a campire with dry leaves. Lots of smoke, very little heat.

Well would we want a coach that anything like this in their history. There are more coaches to choose from. We shouldn’t have to read court documents about sexual assault to children to see how involved he was. It’s radioactive. There are other coaches, period.

He would have done better than Pruitt, but I think my cat would have done a better job too so not really saying much.
Nothing against you at all.

I Crack up when I see statements like this and am reminded of 2017 when several people here made similar statements...

"My grandmother could coach better then Butch"

"Butch sucks, my 4 year old could out coach him"

"Fire Butch anyone would be better then him."

"Fire Butch than Hire my dog, he'd do better then Lyle"

Pruitt said "hold muh beer."

I actually liked the fake punt during a blowout. I used to do that all of the time on NCAA football

The biggest issue I ended up having was the way the media treated the fanbase, blaming us for Currie pulling the deal. Um, hello. He's the AD. What AD cancels a deal like that because of the fanbase uproar? It was all on Currie.

Not trying to defend Fulmer but its not like he had a ton of options. At the time very few of us were balking at the Pruitt hire. The Alabama/Saban connection was just too alluring.

In NCAA football there's not a human on the other side that's been getting their brains beat in, that'll get a chance to take it out on the opposing punter, even it it means you miss the last 3 minutes of the game.....sometimes it's just worth the 15 yards.
