Scholar of the Week: A New Politics Forum Tradition, This Week: HatVol

I believe organized religion is one of, if not the single, most divisive and destructive elements of modern society. I do believe there is a guiding, omnipotent force in the universe. My concept of said force just doesn''t fall in line with the idea of "God" put forth by the major organized religions.

I believe the idea of "hate crimes" causes courts and legislatures to engage in the type of thinking that muddies the legal system. Looking at motivation instead of the criminal acts themselves obscures the real issues at hand. If race can be a factor in a "hate crime" why isn't gender a factor in domestic violence cases? Don't worry about the reasons for criminal acts, simply punish the unlawful behavior.

Tell all the haters that Richardson will help the Bobcats become a playoff team next year, please?

I can't do that because it's not true. I'm a big fan of Richardson's, but he's a complimentary player. That team is still awful.

I can't let you say that. I'd refute it, but I can't put my finger on why they're in the bottom of the league. I mean I know they're bad, but Okafor is solid, Wallace is a nice player, May and Felton are developing, and Richardson is a good slasher and scorer. I know they aren't spectacular but how is a team like say, Philly or Indiana ahead of them?

Wallace is leaving as a free agent. To use one of the teams you mentioned as an example, Indiana has Jamaal Tinsley and Jermaine O'Neal. Both of those guys are better than anyone on Charlotte's roster. If Jason Richardson is the 3rd best player on your team, you're a contender. If he's the best player on your team, which he'll be in the Queen City, your team is awful.

WOW, that is a great post. agreed

All an attorney can really do is try his own case. I don't get caught up in what's going on at the other table. That said, if opposing counsel is an inexperienced attorney, I'll try to subtly point out any technical errors or omissions they are making. Older attorneys always helped me as I was finding my way in the profession. I think I owe that courtesy to the next generation.

I think it is rather obvious that the planet is heating. However, I believe that the claims blaming human behavior for the phenomenon are dubious. The Earth's core is heating up. A good portion of what is called "global warming" is out of our hands. Should we try to cut back on activities that exascerbate the naturally occuring warming? Of course. We just need to recognize that that's not going to stop a natural geological and atmospheric evolution.

hat, if you could give Fulmer some coaching advice, and he had to listen to you, what would you tell him, even though I know your not a fan.

I would advise him to look at some of the more innovative offenses in college football and the NFL in order to add some diversity to an offensive system that has become stale.

OK, do you think a conservative style of coaching can compete with the (innovative offenses) the more aggresive coaches introduce or has CPF fallen behind the learning curve and the ground and pound style is out dated?

I don't think you ever stay competitive by remaining static. If you're not moving forward, you're falling back.

I love to travel. Australia, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Macao are currently on my to do list.

Would you supprt a constitutional amendment that said that all offensive coordinators should be under the age of 40 and that they would not be allowed to hold the position for more than 5 years?

I am not a fan of amending the Constitution. However, I would be a staunch advocate for legislation containing the provisions you mentioned.

hat it's been a pleasure asking questions, you have to be one of the most intriguing members on this board and I wish you the best with whatever comes your way.

If you go during Chinese New Year (it's in February) you can get better travel and lodging rates. However, most businesses are closed. There's a Ruth's Chris that'll be open, but you'll have trouble finding good, authentic Chinese food. The New Year's fireworks are unbelievable. Honestly, you'll feel like you've never seen fireworks before. Haven't made it to the rest of the places you've listed, but I intend to.
