The Simpson case had much more to do with America's fascination with celebrity than it did with race. Joe Montana would have received the same benefit of the doubt that OJ did. The Robert Blake trial proved that. Mark Furman simply provided the defense with an issue that would allow the jury to rationalize aquitting Simpson. Christopher Darden allowing himself to be baited into allowing Simpson to try the glove on was a tactical blunder of major proportions, but the prosecution was running uphill from the start of the case.
