School Vouchers, Parental Choice, Homeschooling Surge & Public Education Funding

So wait, you mean to tell me that your main objection with school vouchers is this particular one of scenario of a kids enrolling in a private school and then two months later leaving and wanting to come back to a public school? How often does that even happen?

More often than you think and it would exponentially increase if you create a situation for students to decide where their education funding is spent. Other than that, school choice is a good idea especially in high poverty areas because in general that is where the worst schools are located because great teachers usually don’t stay in those high stress environments

How often? 1% of students?

How can anyone be against this?

Education Funds Would Follow Each Student Under Proposed Rand Paul Bill

Currently, federal education funds are distributed to state governments, which then distribute those to local schools. But under legislation proposed by Senator Rand Paul, called the Support Children Having Open Opportunities for Learning (or SCHOOL) Act, those funds would actually follow each individual student.

It would be up to the parents if they would like to spend the money sending their child to public school, or if they would rather use the money for a private school, charter school, or even homeschool supplies. For instance, the money could go towards homeschool curriculum materials, technology necessary for learning, tutoring, and even certain extracurriculars.

In my area, former public schoolers are now moving to private in droves.

I briefly considered it and now wonder if I have made a mistake by not pulling the trigger. Confidence in KCS is at an all time low.

It's the price of living in a society. They live in that district. It's their responsibility to make the area better.
Wouldnt the added ability to go to a private school, assuming it's better, be an improvement?

It sounds like you would rather drag people down, than give them a chance to elevate.

You are trying to dictate results, after admitting the results are driven by involvement. And in doing so you are fighting opprotunity. all because those who were going to succeed will still succeed, and those who will suffer will continue to suffer.

If the vouchers are means tested, like someone mentioned, I would assume this would help those not involved before those involved.

If you take this argument forward there shouldnt be any means based scholarships at the college level. If Yale and Harvard offer free rides to students in need that takes away from the HBCUs, small local colleges, etc.

We have been fortunate to be able to send our kids to a private Christian school. Something I was recently made aware of here in GA is the GoldenDomeFund.org which is a program that allows individuals and businesses to designate a percentage of their state taxes to go to a school of your choice. I am not sure if there are similar programs available in other states but it's a really good way to help private schools thrive.

Yes, of course the south is really the most educated region in the country.
“Education”, in this context, is an extremely broad term. “Education” today is preparing people to pass a test. The emphasis is on memorization rather than comprehension and critical thinking. It’s not much better at the undergraduate level either. In my PH.D program we were assigned several books professors are using at the undergraduate level. Some were nothing more than 200 pages of random opinions that used the WAPO throughout as credible sources. Kids are being fed this crap, getting a degree, and we all applaud their “education”. Besides, this isn’t a regional problem. The majority of our population can’t even read and comprehend the medical literature their physician provides them.

TN should pass on the federal money and develop a program that prioritizes critical thinking over social issues and memorization. Perhaps, maybe, just maybe our students will know what a woman is when they graduate.

Interesting to see how they replace over 20% of their funding. But I'm sure the good people of TN will be fine with more taxes

I read an interesting analysis of this plan the other day that compared the costs associated with all the strings attached to the the money the feds dole out and if that report was correct TN wouldn't be losing much money.

Interesting how everyone keeps fleeing these "educated "correct think" areas that are devolving into cess pools for places in the south. Stupid is as Stupid does. If they were correctly educated you';d think they'd run their states and cities better.....but you show me a leftist academic run state and city, and I will show you a spiraling upward crime rate, and spiraling downward economy.
