Youre right as far as a media personality. Majors never sold insurance, cars or was on a monday night NFL broadcast but Majors was the top college football coach in America in 1976 and his coming home WAS the story in the SEC and college football.
Yes - I'm sure it was. Not saying Johnny wasn't a big deal. But Johnny, when he returned to UT, wasn't an NFL Hall of Famer and bonafide celebrity. That's all I'm saying.

The comparison was with Scott Frost who isnt any of those either. Majors Pitt team won it all in 1976, NC & Heisman (when the Heisman really meant something).

But Manning has never had one of television's biggest stars use his name like JM did either ! Lee Majors used that screen name from his admiration for Johnny Majors growing up....

I know, but Tennessee's "Scott Frost" would probably be Peyton Manning, who is a major figure.

So anyway, I say they should stick with Frost for a very long time. But I always say that. I've never even been to Nebraska.

If he wasn't one of their own Husker hero's he would have been ran out of town by now.......Not sure they can do much better at this point honestly oh....I mean who they getting to come to Lincoln?

Like I said in another thread:

Some programs around the country need to be thankful of what they have rather than chase what they never will.
