Remember when everybody wanted him?

@ Nebraska
2018: 4-8
2019: 5-7
2020: 3-5
2021: 0-1

They are not a good football team and I think most of it centers around their talent…..the recruiting landscape has changed since the late 90s. Thoughts?

Nebraska certainly has underlying issues, especially on the recruiting front thanks to their move to the B10. But that doesn’t excuse the product that Frost has put on the field. Pelini was still winning 9-10 games a year when he was coaching at Nebraska in the B10. I made the point in the Neb-Illini game thread that Nebraska just doesn’t look like a well coached team.

The things that were most glaring to me watching the game today are: (1) They don’t have very much talent. The defense had some solid players, but their offensive skill positions were severely lacking. (2) Martinez isn’t a very good quarterback.

Rumors going around Lincoln that Frost is dealing with some issues with his marriage, possible infidelity, and alcohol abuse. Certainly, hope that this is not true for him and his family. Like him or not, he is human and I could not imagine the pressures of being a college head football coach and the great responsibility that comes along with the major salary.

It amazes me how a school can get "their guy" and still struggle. Just goes to show how difficult it is to make a comeback once down for so long. It's like climbing Mt. Everest trying to resurrect a dead program. It isn't impossible, but at the same time, it's extremely difficult and only very few will have that capability.

Tennessee and Nebraska are very similar.

Does this mean the UCF high speed offense does not translate well to power 5 conferences???

2 different styles of offense. Frost runs the Chip Kelly style "blur" offense which lead Oregon to 2 NC games and embarrassed us twice. What I saw Saturday from Nebraska was not the "blur" offense thar was ran at Oregon or UCF. It was not fast or ever in a rhythm. It was more of a no huddle check with the sideline for the play offense similar to what we ran in tempo wise in 07.

Heupel runs the Art Briles style air raid that Baylor won back to back B12 championships. Kendal Briles has ran it with great success at FAU under Kiffin and with Houston until D'riq King was injured. Kendal has had less success at FSU and Arkansas last year. Lebby, OC at Ole Miss and a Art Briles disciple, had good success last year though. We will see, both offenses are great when executed properly.

There are just so few sure fire coaching hires. Scott frost seemed like a slam dunk. So did chip Kelly. Those two hires seems to get the perfect guys for their programs. But the results haven’t been there. Crazy thing is that Scott frost is a chip Kelley disciple. Has the rest of the college football world caught up to the schemes they run? Or did they possibly just have the perfect combination of players and circumstances to succeed in Oregon?

I mentioned yesterday during the game that Frost's play calling is worse than Butch Jones...I really don't think Frost trusts his QB all that much...Some of his calls were just odd for the situations they were in.

Nebraska should have never let Bo Pelini go. They did him wrong releasing those audio tapes. Someone had it out for him. Imagine firing a guy with a 67-27(39-17) record. Yeah let’s get rid of the guy that’s winning 70% of his games, never less than 9 wins. Great idea! Idk about y’all but I would kill for those results considering what we have been subjected to the past decade+.

He looked like he didn't want to be there for sure

Heupel's offense resulted in a 2-6, and a 4-4 conference record while he was OC at Missouri.
True that.
You are not a success unless you have a winning conference record.
In his time at UT, I doubt New Coach will ever have one.
It is unlikely he ever has a QB with Luck's talent.

I can't see Frost making it to the end of year 4, even with his favorite son status.
Nebraska will follow our lead and fire with cause. There is too much smoke around for there not to be fire. The Big is nothing if not conservative. If all the members had illegal practices he might be safe. I doubt that. Then there is recruiting...... do they pay in empty corn sacks filled with dollar bills or use envelopes and fast food containers like everyone else?
