Did you see the KU game? I'm sure glad we had him then.....well, that whole stretch of games between New Years and the 23rd of January for that matter.

Yeah i saw it. Just saying that on this board he's known as a waste of a scholarship. Of course i want him to morph into a 1st team all american though :)

People are harsh with Swiper. As long as they go out and work hard, I don't care to rip on these guys

I thought Hopson was our stopper on defense at the end of the season? Did he not take on all the best guards in the NCAA and perform well? He is not very good on offense in the half court, just not quick enough, but I think he would be a sight to behold in the run and gun!

This is Scotty's year. Write it down

Scotty's year? Scotty who? The sooner BP wakes up and realizes everyone was wrong about this MCD's all-american, and benches him, the closer we will be to getting a replacement. I'd love for him to break out and have a 29 PPG, 8 ASST, and 8 RB per game kind of year. but it just isn't gonna happen. It happens to everyone, everywhere, sometimes they just don't pan out.

Ridiculous? How is the ridiculous? How is it ridiculous to expect an all-american to play like one? Take a look at his stats and see what he has contributed to our program. 08-09 season- 9 PPG,2.7 Boards, 1.4 asst.,
09-10- 12 PPG, 3boards, 1 assist.
Now take a look at some of the other all american's that came from high school same years as Scotty. Out of the 24 players who played in the 08 all-am. game, all but 3 are avg. more PPG than our "beloved" Scotty. And all three of those guys played significantly less minutes.
He just doesn't have it. so tell me again how ridiculous I being. I'm not saying he's not a good kid, or a fine BB player. I'm just saying he is never gonna', average more than 8-12 PPG, and he's not gonna break out of any shell, and be a phenom. Is he gonna' have those nights where he gets 20 and 10. Maybe, but only if the stars are aligned with saturn, and everyone watches TV standing on their head, with their glasses held up on the bottoms of their shoes.

What is ridiculous is proposing that Bruce Pearl should bench him.

Never going average more then 8 to 12 points. I will go out on a limb and say that he averages more than 12 this season barring an injury.

Wow, how novel! Someone new is bashing Scotty. Like we need another one of those around here. I expect you also think Bruce hasn't accomplished anything, Swiperboy is the worst basketball player in the world, Pearl needs to hire a bench coach and we got lucky in our bracket to get to the Elite Eight. The negative voices have become more apparent and cliched than the positive ones. Haters gotta hate, I guess....

I happen to like Hopson, and I love CBP. I would prob. cry like a baby if he ever leaves. I was only commenting on the guys who said something like, this is going to be his breakout year. As for Swiperboy, my wife and I went out to watch him score 39 the a few weeks ago. And he really seems to be much improved. I never thought he was bad, just moody, kinda' like Hopson.

I agree. There is no reason to think he will have a breakout year. But that doesn't mean he should be benched.

Hahaha this is pretty dumb.

Dumb to bench a kid that has all the raw talent in the world, but is just lazy and doesn't wanna play hard. No, I'd rather sent a message to my team that says, If you don't work hard, then you won't be playing. How many times last year during a game was he just lolly-gagging around, throwing soft passes, and giving half effort? Almost every game I watched, I seen him "being lazy"
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but the number don't lie.

What would happen in your ideal scenario of benching Scotty? Who would start ahead of him, how would they do, and how will it effect Scotty's performance? On a side note, is Scotty going to be a SF next season? I see some people think Cam will be SG, but I thought Cam usually played SF.

Yeah, numbers don't lie. He is Tennessee's leading returning scorer, #2 in rebounds, #2 in assists, #2 in steals, and #2 in 3pt percentage.

Sure, bench him soley based on your homespun opinion of his work ethic

If Scotty starts out slowly over the first five games I almost agree that sending him a message by benching could be an effective option. I guess I'm just confident this won't be necessary....

So having to beat the #2 seed with the National Player of the year and a 1st round pick is getting lucky?

Yes. Weak 2 seed and avoiding the 3 seed were both helpful. We got another break when Summers went down, but blew our chance.
