SCOTUS fails to stop TX abortion law.

Justice Sotomayor criticizes Texas abortion ban in scathing dissent after SCOTUS failed to help providers: 'This case is a disaster for the rule of law and a grave disservice to women'

  • The Supreme Court rejected a request by abortion providers to have the case sent to a district judge who had previously moved to block the Texas law
Justice Sonia Sotomayor issued a scathing dissent in the the Supreme Court case involving the Texas abortion ban, calling it a 'disaster' and a 'grave disservice to women.'

Sotomayor ripped into the Texas abortion law on Thursday after the court rejected a request by abortion providers to have the case sent to a district judge who had previously moved to block the Texas law in a 6-3 decision.

Instead, the case will remain with the conservative 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, the AFP reported.

The Texas law, which went into effect on September 1, bans abortions after six weeks, when a heartbeat in the womb can be detected but before many women even know they are pregnant. In December, the Supreme Court ruled to leave the ban in place as challenges were being litigated.

This is one of your worst posts ever. Extrapolate the past 8mos over the next 4yrs and no one can be excited for this clown show. This country could be unrecognizable

Earth could be seconds away from ending in a massive fireball, and some folks' last words will still be, "It would be worse under Trump!"

Federal Court Dismisses Challenges to Texas Abortion Law’s Private Enforcement Provision

The law outlaws abortions once medical professionals can detect a fetal heartbeat, usually around six weeks into a pregnancy and before many women know they are pregnant.

A federal court has dismissed all challenges Tuesday to a provision in a controversial Texas' "fetal heart beat" abortion ban.

The U.S. 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sent the legal challenge against the six-week abortion ban back to the state Supreme Court with orders to dismiss all challenges.

"Having received the ruling of the Texas Supreme Court that named official defendants may not enforce the provisions of the Texas Heartbeat Act… this court REMANDS the case with instructions to dismiss all challenges to the private enforcement provisions of the statute and to consider whether plaintiffs have standing to challenge," the ruling said.

I still believe abortion is a women's issue and ONLY a women's issue, and it should should be decided exclusively by female (XX chromosomes, there is no other type of female) voters. Males have no physical stakes in pregnancy and childbirth, therefore their opinion on the matter, a matter of women's health, is irrelevant. Anyway, men who have a huge "pro life" agenda are weirdos, plain and simple.

This is transphobic. Men can and do get pregnant. Therefore, all people have a right to have seat at the table.

I would be fine with this if we allow only men to vote on laws regarding financial responsibility laws in regards to child support.

I not sure if this is trolling, but men cannot get pregnant. "Transgenderism" is a mental illness.

Tolling, but an entirely valid response for those on the hard left.

Agreed. Government should not force men to support a child financially, even if he fathered it.

Only in exchange for exclusive female abortion rights. In short, if a woman gets to choose exclusively, men get to choose to wave child support.

As we have all been in the womb, we can all relate.

As men possess half of the requirements to get pregnant, they have a say.

As men have to pay child support, they have a say.

As the issue is the killing of another human, men and women have a say.

The last statement is where the rub is. When is there and when isnt there a human. I don’t think there is a single person on this board that believes killing a human is right.

****ing Texas. I said that this would happen.

Governor signs gun bill modeled after abortion law

I haven't actually picked through the bill itself but in the story I noted this:

allows Californians to sue those making, selling, transporting or distributing illegal assault weapons or ghost guns for at least $10,000 in damages. Gun dealers who illegally sell firearms to those under the age of 21 could also be liable for the same damages.

I would have thought acting in an illegal capacity would open one up for legal action regardless of any bill.

That’s a weird thought. Do you believe only children and pedophiles should make age of consent laws?
