Sean Payton suspended for one year

Because you're not allowed to turn someone into a vegetable?

It's always been one thing to hit someone hard to shake or rattle them but it's another though to intentionally seek out to injure or debilitate.

That's definitely not what I'm trying to convey, anyone being given incentives to hurt other players deserves punishment at the harshest level and to set a standard for it. I applaud the NFL's efforts and those who are in the middle of this deserve everything they receive.

At the same time, my fears are that the media runs so far with these things and the concussion controversies that perception changes and the quality could suffer. I mean we've done good things like drug testing and improving equipment and concussion diagnoses, but I just don't want things to degrade down to a level where the players aren't trying to play hard for fear of losing their paychecks, that's all. I still want to see people hitting hard, playing tough, and playing like they want to win.

But I still obviously believe that players have a means to control themselves and those stepping outside the boundaries should be punished severly.

Somewhere in the skank land of mississippi, there is a boy named Billy in the corner curled up in the fetal position.

My opinion...

Payton stays.
Spagnuolo runs things for this season.
Brees gets paid and runs the offense, much like Manning. If Manning just got 19ish million, Brees will get over 20.

They clearly made this statement when they decided to franchise him this year.

Brees ain't going to camp with the franchise tag. He's made that pretty clear. The situation with Payton getting suspended only escalates things. Saints will throw the checkbook at him now, because he's the only other one who can actually coordinate the offense.

Just because you have the franchise tag applied to you doesn't mean you can no longer negotiate a long term contract....

I have nothing against Sean Payton , but he got what he deserved. He knew what was going on, that it was wrong, and he didn't do anything about it.

Bounties may be fine in circumstances such as catching a touchdown pass, causing a fumble, or getting an interception. But bounties that include purposefully trying to injure a player to knock him out of the game is over the line.

Besides, shouldnt all athletes want to beat the best? Knocking starters out only means you aren't playing the best competition.

Looks like Payton went to the Bruce Pearl school of cooperating with an investigation. Smoking gun email and everything. What an idiot.
