Wow. That is sad. The update on sportscenter after MNF last night made it sound like he would recover. I really feel for the young man's family.

RIP Sean Taylor.

You will not be forgotten. Laugh at me if you want, but Taylor was my favorite current Redskin.

I am not laughing. He was my favorite current Skin, too. I loved his hard hitting style. Man, this is so sad for his young child.

The violence in our society is out of control. But its no longer surprising.

Does anyone really believe that it was some random home invasion or robbery? Five days after someone broke in, went through his stuff, and left a knife on his bed taking nothing?

For all his previous troubles, he had seemed to turn the corner and was focused and working on his game. Just devastating for his little girl though.

No. I do not.

hat talked yesterday of being surprised things like this would happen in Palmetto Bay. Either way it's simply tragic.

That's because he was probably targeted by someone that had a grudge or prior bad dealings of some sort. Just too much coincidence between epsiode 1 and 2, such a short time apart.

EXACTLY! There is something that is not known. Taylor had had several off field problems in the past, and could have formed enemies. Just last week someone broke in and left a knife on his bed, like a warning. He would not have been at home if he was not injured. The poor guy had a machete, cause Im assuming he could not own a gun due to previous gun charges. My thoughts go out to his family. I never get tired of watching some of his hard hits on a highlight reel.

As a member of Vol Nation and an owner of hailRedskins.com, the largest unaffiliated fan website for the Washington Redskins, I extend my gratitude and appreciate tot he VolNation for the condolences and sympathies. As football fans yourselves, you know how easy it can be to get wrapped up in players, and Sean Taylor was one of those that just began endearing himself as Mr. Redskin.

Of course we mourn the loss of Sean Taylor the football player. He gave us terrific highlights, added spark to our defense, and became the premier face of the Redskins, dare I say, the new Mr. Redskin. Shy to the media he was, he had his reasons and we the fans also supported him in that regard.

Sean had a troubled past, but overcame that and all words, indications and comments from people who knew him as a friend and teammate clearly has shown he overcame the troubles. If there is one thing you can take from here, and feel free to share it with your fans, is that the reputation and troubled past of Sean Taylor were indeed in the PAST and Sean really did turn his life around. His 18 month old daughter was a huge part of that transformation along with his close friendships with Clinton Portis and Santana Moss. Does it make a difference? No, in the reality of life, no, Sean was a human being and Sean was one of us. BUT, please feel free to pass on that the reputation Sean developed early, was not who Sean was yesterday. Sean was a friend of many, a great football player, a terrific son, and a father to an 18 month old daughter.

We weep and mourn his loss, not as a player, but as Sean the person. We extend our gratitude and appreciation to each one of you in our time of grief. It's a sorrowful day in Redskins Nation and your kind thoughts and words have helped many here and for that, we say, THANK YOU!

Nice post and great sentiment.

But I have to say that you are dreaming if you think that people aren't going to assume that this terrible tragedy was somehow related to his prior attitude issues and problems. There is a taboo about speaking ill of the dead, and few people will do it publicly even though most people out there are going to assume that this is an extension of his earlier problems. Even if this was some sort of long-standing dispute for which he was soime way at fault, he didn't deserve this. Just not going to get people to stop speculating on it, though.

I will make this comment and this comment only on this situation. I hope with all my heart that Butch Davis, Larry Coker, Roger Goodell and anyone else who holds sway with the alums of the "U" are in touch with them now. Cooler heads must prevail. As someone who has been fortunate enough to get to know many of those guys, they're truly family. Should a former 'Cane get to the perp before the authorities do, may God have mercy on him. The 'Canes certainly won't. Sean Taylor was an occasionally immature, but fiercely loyal and caring young man. Those who would use this tragedy as a chance to throw stones at Sean or the University of Miami football program are cut from the same primordial slime as the cowardly shooter. RIP, Sean. The world lost a good one.

Hat, do you think that those close to him and the circle of friends he would have from the U might have an idea of what happened and who is responsible? Last night they had the local police chief on by telephone with ESPN I believe it was who said that right now they really do think that it was random. Bearing in mind what you said about the low likelihood of that given where it happened plus the prior incident (what are the odds of two such incidents being random), that seemed to me to be a remark that the chief might regret later.

My guess is that the chief said that to keep people from engaging in wild, slanderous speculation as to possible motives for the crime. As to whether people have an idea as to the perpetrators, I learned a long time ago that there are no secrets in Miami. If this wasn't random, it will be known soon and retribution will be swift. The perpetrators don't just have to worry about former 'Canes, they need to be on the lookout for members of th Florida City PD. Those guys, to a man, revere Sean's father.

If it's anything like the case with the lineman from Miami getting shot last year then they will never find who killed Taylor. Canes players will have to find him because the Miami PD isn't.
