I tore my UCL. If it’s a tear he’s out for the CFP.
And can we please not do the FSU comparison? It’s not remotely the same.
FSU would’ve definitely gotten in this season because of the AQ, but I still don’t have an issue with them being left out last year. They had 2 games to prove themselves vs a mediocre Florida team and an ACC runner up who lost to Kentucky at home the week before the ACC title game. They barely escaped both of those games . IMO they weren’t a top 4 team. Probably not top 12 at this point last season.FSU really got screwed on the timing of the 12-team playoff. If it wasn't in the works for the very next year, I bet they keep FSU in because they wouldn't want to set a precedent of an undefeated P5 conference champion not being in the top 4, although they would have never treated Alabama, Ohio St, etc. in the same way if they were in that position.
Instead, the playoff expands the very next year, and they can rationalize their decision by saying "Well, they still would have gotten in the expanded playoff."
So, I wasn't imagining that. I thought that was a dig. And they totally made Sanky's mind go blank. That was the worst commissioner address at any confernce title post-game in history. He lost his train of thought so bad, he looked like Biden at a world leader meeting.SIAP…., but I just went back and watched the post game. Kirby’s shot at Sankey and the scheduling was gangster. Sark’s comment at half time was classic wrt to officiating. I don’t know if that was a set up with those guys being friends, but Sankey looked like he swallowed a bug.
It looked worse than a bug. Sankey was steaming. I thought Kirby’s comment was low class and typical with Sankey standing right beside him. There were better ways to say it without embarrassing the head of the SEC. Sankey might remember that on some future critical decision regarding Georgia. Best not to poke the bear when you don’t need to.SIAP…., but I just went back and watched the post game. Kirby’s shot at Sankey and the scheduling was gangster. You aren't wrong about any of that. Here's the rub though - if certain teams (Alabama, Ohio St, Texas, maybe Michigan) were in that identical position, they wouldn't have gotten bumped. The narrative would have been flipped instead about how they've showed so much grit and determination without their Heisman-caliber QB.FSU would’ve definitely gotten in this season because of the AQ, but I still don’t have an issue with them being left out last year. Probably so, but in the context of Texas’ easy schedule, first year in the SEC and Ga having had probably the toughest schedule with most of those tough games being on the road, I can somewhat understand the comment. I might not have done it publicly, maybe talked off to the side, but there may be value to putting a big spotlight right on the situation. If Sankey decides seek retribution in the future, it will look just like that, retribution. If so, Ga will likely respond and put the spot light back on Sankey again. Sankey essentially got put in a situation where if he does, it will look petty and vindictive. You’re not wrong, but I could see this going a couple of different ways. It may just stay where it lays at this point. It looked worse than a bug. Sankey was steaming. I thought Kirby’s comment was low class and typical with Sankey standing right beside him. No doubt Texas got an easy road and they have the same schedule next year. I just think it would have been smarter not to embarrass Sankey with him standing right beside him. But Kirby is a football coach and not very diplomatic so I guess it shouldn’t be a surprise. He operates with a perceived chip on his shoulder all the time which is sort of amusing to me.Probably so, but in the context of Texas’ easy schedule, first year in the SEC and Ga having had probably the toughest schedule with most of those tough games being on the road, I can somewhat understand the comment. I suspect, like everyone, some tweaks are coming. Tell ya what though, after Kirby’s stunt, I would love to be a fly on the wall listening in on that phone call between Sankey, Kirby, the UGA Athletic Director and Chancellor, assuming there is/was one.No doubt Texas got an easy road and they have the same schedule next year. As far as Sankey goes, I think he’s going to be sitting up nights trying to figure out how to screw with the playoff committee going into 2025 and for sure in 2026 when a new deal is cut. I guarantee that he isn’t happy with the SEC getting 3 teams and the BIG getting 4.
The Big Ten and playoff committee (one and the same) is pushing Sankey around right now. Won't be suprised to see him announced an early retirement after the season is over.No doubt Texas got an easy road and they have the same schedule next year. Can’t see that happening but I guess anything is possible these days. I think Sankey didn’t have a chance after SMU played that game close. The committee just wasn’t going to devalue the conference championship games unless SMU had been blown out. Bama would have gotten in if that had happened and Sankey would have had his 4 teams.
