SEC Championship Game thread

I hope we are not in UCONN's bracket. That would be some bs.

Geography usually determines one's region. The selection committee places #2 seeds in the closest location, unless the #1 seed in that region is from the same conference. It is all about getting fannies in the seats and minimizing travel costs.

watching Maryland & OSU going at it has been a pleasure. Very entertaining basketball game.

Maryland will/would beat TN badly. imho

Considering that UT is missing their leading scorer and rebounder, a 6-6 Mercedes Russell, and a 6-2 Jasmine Jones, as well as the ever Mysterious, Jannah Tucker; it is amazing that we have played as well as we have for almost every single game this entire season.

I heartily congratulate coach Holly Warlick, all of the assistant coaches, and all of the players.

I believe it was Gary Blair who said of SC that they are like a boa constrictor - they slowly squeeze you to death.

I don't watch SC much so perhaps others can comment - is this their style? I assume it is because of Blair's statement.

But with all those thoroughbreds in the stable if I were Dawn Staley I'd be inclined to open it up more. Did you see Wilson run the floor? Both her and Coats are big and mobile. Their offense seems a tad pedestrian with all that talent.

Ariel had a terrible game but she has been big since Izzy's injury. She needs to get her mind right though for the NCAAs. We need her to win the games.

Ariel had a bad game Friday against UGA, too. She has been cold as ice since Senior Day.

What does USC has that Tennessee don't? With 8 McDonald's All Americans it would seem that Tennessee should be able to find some offense from somewhere. Tennessee is probably the best team in the nation on papers, it all comes down to Tennessee's style of play. Time after time we see Tennessee play down to their competition in which Cierea addressed once before but never did anything about it. I have yet to see Tennessee play with high energy, killer instinct, & be relentless all at the same time. I think that's what seperates UCONN from the rest of the country. I would love to see Tennessee make it Tampa & maybe even win the natty but until they step up the intisity I don't see them winning. Hopefully next year it will be better but, UCONN wins the natty this year EASILY!!!!!

a post player ?

how many inside shots for the gamehens, that you thought that Izzy would have blocked ?

When you watch a replay of the Championship game it is so evident that UT does not have the level of talent that SC has. The players know it too because it shows in their body language and the way they played.

It's true that we didn't have our entire stable of McDonald's All-Americans available but apparently sympathy from opponents is in short supply.

UT was out shot, out rebounded, out hustled and outplayed by a better team. Period. They aren't as good as USC,ND, or UConn. Period. They aren't going to beat those schools. On a good day they could beat Maryland or Baylor but would not be favored.

That's the long and short of it. Bitter as it may be.

Well hey, that would give us a decent shot at a final four as long as we are in Maryland or Baylor bracket...I'd take those odds. As far as beating uconn, that would take a monumental performance and a lot of luck, but anything can happen, just ask the 1983 nc state men's basketball team. They weren't given any chance of beating Houston, who fielded probably the most nba talent men's basketball has ever seen, but they did it and has become one of college basketball's most endearing moments. Here's hoping that Tennessee can have a magical NCAA tournament run!!

I'm not usually one for comparative scores but UConn buried SC by 25 ...and it could've been worse. I believe Geno would only make a token gesture of mercy against us...up 40, clears the bench with 30 seconds left sort of thing..

we could have handled Welch & Mitchell with no trouble at all except for having to battle Coates, Wilson, iliam(sp") etc, Graves could have eaten Welch alive except she had 2 giants to battle first. Mitchell? same thing, no problem.

On paper, UConn has the best talent, followed by South Carolina.

Tennessee is on par with Notre Dame, but they have a more balanced lineup with legitimate post players and multiple outside shooters.

If Izzy, Mercedes, Jasmine and Jannah were healthy and playing right now, then this would be a completely different team.

Mitchell and Welch start for Tennessee, easily.
