SEC Championship In Game Thread

pentalties cost us the game....

UT 12 penalties for 96 yards, Aub 4 for 20 yards.

As I said in an earlier post, I will not blame the refs for a loss. If you lived in Bammerville and heard how the refs have stolen games from them, that there is a conspiracy among refs since when they played football - the Bear beat them so now they are getting back at them.. it's :bs:

However, we clearly took chances away from ourselves by stupid mistakes (that the refs never missed). In any event, it's hard to say we would have won when we give up 500+ yards and 38 points.

All in all - we did some good things and bad. Just couldn't close the deal.

No, Auburns offense cost us the game. Specifically, Jason Campbell.. He was responsible for over 400 yards. Give credit where credit is due.

Can't argue with that.

there offense was ok...dont forget our offense got us within 3. the pentalties cost us all the momentum

Well I just got back, was able to listen to the Vol network at different intervals, went into a store 21-7 at the half, came out 21-21 in the 3rd, heard the TD to make it 28-21, back into the store, came out and it was 31-28 right when they hit the bomb to go up 38-28.

From what I got to hear, we made Campbell look like the Heisman candidate of the century because our DB's were pitiful, and Clausen was about half as good as he was against Kentucky, but mainly the D just wasn't there and the long ball seemed to be open at will for them.

I re-read the thread, no idea how the penalties hurt us (can't see on radio), but I know the Gators have criticized us all year for having our own refs give us games, so I know they're laughing at us.

Overall I'd say no one expected Tennessee to put 28 points on the board, and everybody expected AU to have wrapped it up a lot sooner than with 3 minutes left in the game.

Valiant effort by the Vols, a team with a 3rd string QB, tons of injuries, inexperienced WR's, and nobody playing in the defensive backfield.

At least we cost AU a chance at the title. As bad as we're respected in the national media, they're going to see 38-28 when they were expecting 38-3 and not even think twice about keeping AU at #3.

Which is a shame, they should be playing for a national title.

Clausen wasn't bad - a bit off but passes hit receivers in hands - I'd say receivers were more of an issue.

We killed ourselves with penalties but you are correct, our secondary was torched regularly.

Riggs was phenomenal.

I drew the conclusion about Clausen from the stats rundown they kept giving. As luck would have it I heard more of Auburn with the ball than I did when we had the ball. I was down on Clausen when he took over in the ND game, but he's improved a lot since then and has earned my respect.

Hate to hear that about the WR's but htey are still young and we've had no continuity at QB this year, so it might be expected.

The penalties really worry me though. It sounds a bit one sided to AU, but we should be disciplined enough not to do that in the first place. I know there were some D penalties that cost us big time, where we stopped them on 3rd down only to give it to them by penalty. And the last AU TD was on a busted play that half the defense stopped on, or at least it sounded that way.

A real killer was a holding penalty - we were deep in our own territory and RC threw a beauty to Meachem - caught it in traffic on Carlos Rogers the all-american. Would have put us out near midfield. It was a hold but on a similar play, refs missed a clear hold on Aub but instead called PI on a ticky tack by Fellows. (3rd down as well). Next play, Aub torched Fellows for 6.

BTW - The CNNSI site preview of this game predicted Aub 42 - UT 14! :withstupid:

Yeah, that's what I mean. Our unrespectedness doomed AU from the get go if we showed up at all. To play within 3 minutes of winning,

I almost expected AU to try to stick it in the end zone at the end to try to influence the pollsters. 45-28 looks better than 38-28. Two-Tone Tommy Tubberville surprised me there.

I wouldn't have liked it, but I did expect it.

Tim DePreist was extremely critical of the entire DB's on that series. Said our first instinct is to grab when the WR cuts inside and that we'll get called for it every time and we've been doing it all year.

I still stand by what I said earlier, let them play football, it is the championship game for pete's sake.

The one penalty that I see hurt was when Parys lost his mind for a play and hit Jason in the head with his hands....I think they scored on that drive
