Mark Byington. It's crazy that he could make Vanderbilt immediately competitive, let alone THIS good. I can't think of a turnaround this impressive, ever.

Ditto on the Oats part. He basically covered up an accessory to Murder. His counterparts are little league...
Oats did not "cover up" anything. He did have what I thought was a very flippant and unserious response to a player who was involved in a very serious legal situation, which is still bad, but he didn't cover up a crime. Come on now.

Unserious? Is that a word? Anyways, your opinion. Oats allowed the player to play after the murder. The Player took the gun to the Murderer. And someone from UA got the TPD to lay off a star player. I remember it very well, and it stunk to Denmark.

Yes it is.

Everything you just said amounts to a bad reaction to an event on the part of Oats, not a "cover-up." Was he at the crime scene destroying evidence or something?

Why wouldn’t he allow him to play?
Once everything was settled with him regarding the case, there was no reason to disallow him playing.

However, I was surprised they let him play while the incident (and his role/potential role in it) was still being investigated. If memory serves there was at least one game he played in where it was very much a possibility he might be charged with something. They didn't have to suspend him of course, but I was just a little surprised they didn't. It was a pretty bad look.

Yes, but none of that is a coberup. It's corruption and immoral leadership, just not a cover up.

I dunno. I feel like there’s a good chance they could give it to Missouri’s head coach (Dennis Gates). Turnaround from going 8-24 last season and winning 0 SEC games last year to ranked, tournament team with wins against ranked teams like Kansas, Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Alabama this year.

Byington came in with no team. He has one guy from last year who is minor contributor. He somehow assembled a tourney-caliber team within a month, and then has coached them up to 7-8 in the list difficult sec year in recent memory.

Gates' turnaround is impressive. But Byington is almost as successful, doing it at a harder school, and after starting from even further behind. Its unprecedented, and I would not have thought possible.

You could give it to Pearl, Barnes, Golden, Byington, Beard, or Oats and they’d all be legitimate answers. One of the best seasons for SEC basketball I can remember

How is any of that related to Oats attempting to cover up an accessory to murder? lol
