SEC Coach of the Year

Missouri was preseason top 15, the definitely aren't doing better than expected.

Ole Miss was expected to make the NCAA tourney this year, and that's likely not gonna happen. I'd say they've performed as expected or slightly underachieved.

Missouri was overrated in the preseason. I'll put it this way... I think they are a better team than I expected, they just didn't win as many games as I thought.

Anyway...

Ole Miss definitely over-performed. Who expected them to finish 3rd in the SEC? Also, who expected them to make the tournament? I certainly didn't see anyone making those predictions. 6th in the SEC is about where I remember them being placed below UK, Florida, Bama, UT, and Mizzou.

Nonsense. Ole Miss was picked 9th in Vegas.

Kentucky +120
Florida +275
Alabama +700
Missouri +900
Tennessee +900
Arkansas +1150
Georgia +1750
LSU +1750
Mississippi +1750
Texas A&M +2500
Vanderbilt +2500
South Carolina +2500
Mississippi State +3000
Auburn +6000

And Counzo gets cred too because Vegas has UT tied for 4th with Maymon in the mix and still finished 5th.

Coach of the Year this season is the equivalent of Steve McNair's CO-MVP award. Not quite up to par with Brady's 2007 MVP.

Let me say about Kennedy, I thought expectations were higher. Looking back they were picked to finish around 7th in SEC and be bubble team, but NIT bound. They finished second and postseason destination seems accurate.

I just have a major issue with Kennedy and looking at where they were at one time they were 17-2 and ranked at one point during SEC play...only to finish 6-6 with unexplainable losses to South Carolina and Mississippi State. For those 2 losses alone he doesn't deserve the award...

Doesn't the COY award almost ALWAYS go the coach who wins the outright league title?

I seem to remember Brady from LSU got the vote over Bruce in either Bruce's 1st or 2nd year, and at that time it was explained to me that the award typically goes to the coach of the top team.

Yeah, I didnt remember them being projected that high. If the award were given after SECT, I think CCM would have a shot. As it is I think Andy (I like to beat up cab drivers) Kennedy is your winner.

Pretty much. Why these kind of awards are normally lame.

Then how do you feel about Counzo's 3-7 stretch including losing to the coach you're doubting twice in those 10 games?
Who should win, IYO?

I feel like that also wasn't a great thing. My point was, Kennedy had his team in a perfect spot, 17-2 and ranked and on their way to the dance, in as bad as a conference as the SEC is you should make the dance easy when you're off to a 17-2 start. I guess it's the opposite for Martin, didn start strong but is closing damn strong and has his team ahead of Kennedy's.

My guess is it goes to BillyD

Who picks the winner? The coaches?

CCM got Co coach of the year last year and UT came in second and didn't go to the dance.

Billy D should win. Kennedy and Ole Miss (on paper) actually overachieved just for the simple fact they were picked to finish 7th in the league this year but honestly, I never seen that. Before the season started, I said Ole Miss was going to be a dark horse because anyone with half a brain could see that team is well capable of being an NCAA Tournament team. Maybe they peaked too early or ran out of tricks with Henderson but that falls on the coach IMO and I don't think Kennedy deserves such an award. His team, once again, has pretty much tanked.

Also, I think outside of Kentucky, Florida and Mizzou...the rest of the SEC was wide open. And if you look at preseason predictions, Tennessee and Georgia both received votes. UT lost Maymon so it's understandable but Fox has no excuse.

Cal was robbed two years ago and then Martin was robbed last year imo.

Last year was more impressive for Martin because UT was predicted 11/12 in the SEC and look where they ended up.

Coudnt NOT give it to Cal last year though. Getting talent is something he has done before. Get them to come together like they did last year, I hadnt see him do before.

What UK did last year was equally as impressive IMO...and this season really shows that. Getting these guys to play together isn't an easy thing to do.

“Kennedy says Henderson has played for two coaches that have been fired and with his shot selection he may be going for the triple crown.”

HAHAHAHA

What has Coach D done.......I am not sure he has earned it.....He had the pieces to win but lost too many games to be named SEC Coach of the Year....Did not make the adjustments that Coach M did in the middle of the season to put him into a position to get into the tournament. Mayman out thought the season was lost....NIT....McRae steps up with the CCM's changes and adjustments......Give it to the guy that earned not the guy that had it in place and underachieved.......

the guy recruited these people.he earned it by recruiting and they won the sec....i find it ridiculous that this award even exists the
COY should always be conference champ period

I don't think you are going to change this.....either...the award is here to stay....and the reason it is given is going to be what it is.....

Why don't we give Coach D a participation trophy instead, he did what he was suppose to do but did it by the skin of his teeth.

Dealing with injuries is part of coaching.....and making the proper adjustments......He didn't handle it well and winning on the road seem to be a problem for him. JMO

Who is Blair....having to ask that question....should be enough to justify a reason for not giving him the COY award....Participation Trophy is warranted....Did he coach in the SEC....this year......Fans and their Bias.....LOL

Therefore, the POY should also be from the conference champ
