sec expansion (merged)

SEC East SEC West

Georgia Alabama
Florida Arkansas
Kentucky Auburn
Miami LSU
South Carolina Mississippi State
Tennessee Missouri
Vanderbilt Ole Miss
Virginia Tech West Virginia

This conference would be untouchable.

WVU should only be permitted if VT and Miami come in as well... I like everything else on here with the exception of Missou.. would much rather it was FSU

so...

West:
LSU
Arky
Ole Miss
Miss St
Bama
Barn
FSU
Vandy

East:
WVU
VT
Kentucky
Vols
USCjr
UGA
Gators
Canes

I believe the eastern/central time zone fits with these splits as well (correct me in UK is central)

Y'all are missing the point. Additions will be for expanded TV markets not what necessarily makes sense.
If we add anybody it will be Texas and then we have to take A&M.

thank you for pointing that out. Texas AM wouldint be my choice but it would put the sec in the for front in houston etc..

to be hounest i hope that it stays the same bc if clemson came into the SEC that would hurt us alot. clemson keeps up with sec teams as it is in recruiting. if they had the money of sec teams that would be killin...

FL. St. would hop on the SEC in a haert beat to get out of the ACC. They play one team a year that anyone cares about - FL. They would love to get in there with Ga AU LSU all would be better then BC Va Md. The ACC has killed FL ST.
Fla State was considered back when the SEC expanded with S. Carolina and Arkansas. I believe they turned the SEC down in favor of the ACC.

Look. This is all about every other conference playing catch up with the SEC and their ESPN broadcast package. The only reason to expand now would be to get teams that have a natural rival and would be a good fit before somebody else does. Teams that are already in the Big 10 and Big 12 aren't going anywhere. And don't forget that basketball schools are good adds as well.

I think if 4 schools are added, they should logically be:
1) Florida State
2) Georgia Tech
3) Louisville
4) Memphis

Think about it...

I think if the Big 10 takes a few of the Big 12 teams, there's a good chance the Big 12 could fall apart.

I think FSU and GT would be good adds, and possibly Louisville, but not Tiger High.
No competition whatsoever.

Nah, Lexington is Eastern. You're good.

I think people aren't paying attention to the scheduling issues with having two divisions of such size. Divisions are great, but it's like being in two separate conferences unless you have a couple games between the divisions. I tried to handle this back on page one in what seemed the best way to me, although I don't know if there's any perfect way.

Wouldn't it be great if USC joined the conference and USC's first road game was to Knoxville?

Don't fall in love with Clemson just because they made it to the acc title. 5 of their last 8 opponents had losing records overall. Not just in the acc. They played the easiest schedule in the acc and that says a lot. Their school is small (13,000) and their athletic budget is half the size of vandy. Not to mention the fact that their bball team just got kiffined. Which hurts a lot worse because all of their recruits jumped ship. Their bball arena is tiny too. If you want money from an acc team in expansion unc or vt are definitely the better gets.

And how exactly is clemson "an sec team already"? just because they like football more than basketball? If I were a clemson fan, I'd be a football fan too because their bball team has sucked for decades, but that doesn't mean they're like an sec team. my stepdad has season tickets for clemson on the 10th row on the 40 yd line and I've been to a lot of games... and they are some of the most boring sporting events I've been to.

oh it's awesome, let me tell you... seeing them play sc state, winthrop, the citadel, nc state, maryland, wake forest, virginia... absolutely thrilling (feel and sound like one of our spring games). half of their conference puts me to sleep... and the semi-good games (VT, GT, FSU) really aren't that exciting either. they are nothing like the experience of a LSU/Bama, or UGA/FL, UT/FL, UT/Bama, LSU/Aub or any two good teams going at it in the sec. There is a world of difference in overall presentation and just how professional the experience seems.

VT would cost the SEC money, They bring 1 sport to the SEC (now if they just played football maybe)

6. WHAT IF THE SEC EXPANDS?: When the Big Ten threw out the idea of expanding by five teams to form a 16-team mega-conference, SEC commissioner Mike Slive made it perfectly clear the SEC would not sit on the sidelines and watch. While the SEC isn’t actively seeking to expand, Slive has plans in place if another conference forces his hand. So what if the SEC were to expand by four teams? Who would be the prime candidates? Tony Barnhart blogged in the Atlanta Journal Constitution that SEC expansion would make most sense by adding Clemson, Georgia Tech, Miami and Florida State. I think that would create very difficult choices in terms of aligning the divisions and I’m not sure that those four schools from the ACC would add that much to the league other than football and baseball and from a facilities standpoint, none of them would rank in the top half of the SEC. Also, I can’t see that it would add that much to the SEC in terms of television revenue.

7. WHAT IT THE SEC EXPANDS, PART II: If the SEC were to expand, the move that would make the most sense to me would be to bring in Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State because you would add the second largest state in terms of population along with the fifth (Dallas-Fort Worth) and tenth (Houston) television markets. All four of those schools have terrific facilities, great football (Oklahoma and Texas have 11 national championships between them) and championship pedigrees in sports other than football. In a 16-team SEC, the West would be Texas, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, LSU, Ole Miss and Mississippi State. The East would be Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Auburn, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Tennessee and Kentucky. That’s a 16-team power conference that makes a lot of sense to me.

8. AND WHAT IF ARKANSAS BOLTS TO THE BIG 12?: Although that doesn’t seem like a real possibility given the SEC’s mega bucks television deal, you know that Arkansas would be the first option for the Big 12 if Missouri and/or Nebraska were part of an expanded Big Ten. If somehow Arkansas bolts and there is only one slot to be filled in the SEC, my vote would be to add Louisville. The Cardinals have facilities for all sports that would rank in the top half of the SEC (newly expanded Papa John’s Stadium will seat 65,000 this fall and the new Freedom Hall is a $238 million gem) and they would field competitive teams in nearly every sport. I know Kentucky wouldn’t like having Louisville in the same league, but it’s a move that makes perfect sense.
