SEC going with 1 permanent?

I'm just happy that UGA won't get by with playing a joke SEC schedule to go with their joke OOC schedule in years to come.
We play Bama annually and they play Auburn, that's pretty much the extent of our scheduling bragging rights over them. UGA and UF both play far, far more aggressive out of conference schedules than we do.

I'll give UF playing FSU every year but FSU has been a train wreck for years but no way a school that didn't play an out of state nonconfernce game for 30+ years plays a "far, far more aggressive schedule".

Think of all the road nonconfernce games Tennessee has played since 1991, the last time UF left the state Florida for a nonconfernce game.

Ding Ding Ding...exactly!!

When it comes to non-conference scheduling, Florida wins the biggest chicken award by a mile!

The last time they won an OOC road game was in the 1980's when they had cheating Galen Hall. Stayed on triple probation.

Remember them in the Las Vegas bowl last year? Looked like a bunch of retards.

It used to seem like one of their biggest rivals was The Citadel.

Did I miss something on their OOC schedule?

Alabama is BY FAR the toughest permanent cross-division foe since Saban got there, but as far as out of conference schedule, we compare quite poorly to UGA and UF from year to year as the below chart addressing 2016 to 2025 show. Don't look at UGA and UF's schedule beyond 2025 either because they've got 2-3 P5 teams scheduled every year for about another 10 years after that. We haven't played more than 1 power 5 team out of conference since we played Duke and Miami in 2003. Again, us playing Bama every year means we can hold our head up high, but we really can't rag on UF or UGA about out of conference schedule, they generally schedule alot tougher than we do.

From 2016 to 2022, FSU had 3 winning seasons out of 7 years and never finished better than 2nd in their division.

In 2017 Michigan was 8-5.

In 2019 Miami was 6-7.

In 2022 Utah was 10-4.

Which of those opponents are supposed to blow me away?

Add Florida State and those 6 P5 opponents in 3 years certainly blows away our 3 some of Georgia Tech, BYU and Pitt.

Pitt won the ACC and finished with 11 wins both of which can't be said for any of UFs opponents you listed.

The mighty FSU had more losing seasons than winning ones in the years you listed.

Take that back a few years and look at our road games at Oklahoma when they were killing it. At Oregon when they were killing it. We have played at UCLA, Syracuse when they were killing it. At Notre Dame when they were a much better team. We played at Miami. At California when they were a top 12 team. Tennessee has never backed away from playing anyone. And i will say that no other team being compared to our schedule had to deal with Butch and Dooley at the helm. For that we should get a few extra credits.

I didn't see anyone else mention this; once we go to the 12 team playoff, 2024, it's highly likely we could run into Alabama in the playoffs. Both teams are positioned well with coaching, recruiting and development to do so. It's VERY possible we could run into them 3 TIMES. Could you imagine AL vs UT at Neyland for a host playoff game? SIGN ME UP!!!!
I love how everybody want's a 90% chance at a loss every year...I'm a long time fan since the mid 80's. I remember the streak when we were better than them most years, but always played down. 1990 was a travesty and Majors squandered a NC season. We were loaded and his answer in the Bama game was to bring in Henton to replace Kelly. His 3 yards and a cloud of dust offense did him in. The tie with Auburn was a loss as Auburn tied us at the end. The tie with eventual NC Colorado was a win for us that year and the only good tie. I was glad we lost to Bama though. 3 ties would have been a travesty unheard of before! Had there been OT in those days...Man what a year had we won them all.

Uhh, but Bama is usually ranked #1 or 2...every year. We play Florida early when neither team really knows the other and can't really scheme for anything. We play one other power 5 school, but you know these games are scheduled so far in advance, that a top 10 team when scheduled could be in a down period 6 years later. We drew LSU last year and smoked them and they won the West.

It sounds like this 1-7 model is gaining momentum. If it comes out next week or the week after that people are going to be furious that UGA/Aub or UT/Bama aren’t going to happen annually. There will be a lot of pushback to make it happen.
They are doing their level best to ruin the game.

Utah won the Pac12 last year and went 10-4, FSU went 10-3. Playing two power 5 teams out of conference in a year is more aggressive scheduling than just scheduling 1. Again, we haven't scheduled more than 1 power 5 opponent out of conference in 20 years. Florida has done it pretty regularly. But we do play Bama, so that balances out a lot, that's what we should say when we are talking shid to opponents about schedules because it's true (we play Bama Pawl!). Throwing shade at UF or UGA as far as aggressiveness of out of conference scheduling though is not a strong argument in our favor based on the facts.

We've played some good teams, but since 2003 we've played one P5 team at most out of conference. Everytime Florida plays someone else (which is most years), it's in addition to Florida State.

Yes, playing Bama versus playing Auburn (though Auburn has beaten Saban more than anyone) or LSU is advantage us (in terms of being a tougher opponent on the schedule, nearly every year). As I have said repeatedly. Your rotating opponent rotates, it's just fortune if they happen to be good or bad. In the system we have had, the East teams see the other West teams once every 6-7 years (though the COVID year gave an extra game against a couple in recent years) .

Regarding Georgia's 2023 OOC Schedule, they were forced to cancel the Oklahoma Game and had to grab Ball State to replace it so I am not sure it is 100% UGA's fault.

I dont blame them for not playing more than one P5 team when you have Florida, Georgia and Alabama on the schedule every year. Then you mix in the years we played Auburn or LSU or even Ole Miss when they are very good. Florida plays Georgia every year but its never in Athens which is a huge advantage. But up and down this league you can point to teams playing weak non conference teams and at times playing big non conference games. All in all in balances out over time.
