south carolina winning the east???? you can't really be serious, we definitely have a better chance of winning the east than they do and i dont think we will win it. i think uf is a more likely candidate to win the east next year

SEC East Champ: Florida or Tennessee

It's too early to tell if the Vols will respond to the changes in staff.

SEC West Champ: LSU

Sleepers: Kentucky, MSU

Sylvester Croom isn't an idiot. He'll turn it around.

As for my Cats, they're returning most of their starters, and they'll be Rich Brooks' first full team since probation. I believe that they'll go 4-4 in the conference.

baby step, baby step.

I admire the optimism...but the east should be a one horse show next year, by all rights...we'll be better, yes, but not in contention for the title next year....and KY, well you never know.....

which horse? Georgia will be w/o Shockley, Meyer's Florida offense will still suck and he has to play in Knoxville, South Carolina still hasn't beaten a good team, Vandy loses Cutler, and Kentucky just plain sucks.

Florida...just playing the odds...they will be bringing enough back on offense, and defense, and this will be year two of the offense....two off seasons, one full season...and i would expect that Josh Portis will see more PT.

I think we'll be better, but not title contender worthy, i don't know enough about who UGA brings back at qb...USC, well, i think they got lucky this year, but one would think that a similar performance would be warranted next...just can't see them beating TN and UF both again....

Florida, right now, looks to be the favorite for next year...of course things could change....UGA won't suck, and who knows what we'll be capable of....same w/USC....but UF has the least amount of questions to be answered....:dunno:

the sleeper team almost has to be tennessee. With having almost every hard game in tennessee, they can have a nice pretty record at the end of the year.

Have you seen Florida's schedule next year? They play all three West heavyweights (Bama, Auburn and LSU) including the East. That schedule reminds me of ours this year. No way they win the East next year.

yeah, but TN can't be a sleeper....we were just in the CG last year...hard to say that next year, even though this year sucked, we'd be considered a "sleeper".

to me the definition of sleeper is someone that you'd have NO idea of making it...like KY, or ARK, MSU, Ole Miss, Vandy....those are sleepers....

If TN some how won the East next year, it would be a suprise, yes, but not like if KY wins it....

It really does not matter because Penn State and Cal will play for the National Championship. The SEC will slip behind the ACC as the dominant football conference. Spurrier will probably win the SEC and get offered a job coaching the San Antonio Saints. :ill_h4h:

that may be true, i am going strictly on what/who is coming back and who has the least amount of questions to be answered next year....kind of like us this year...thought we had all this talent coming back and we'd be world beaters, even with the schedule we had....if our pre season ranking had been based on our future schedule, no way we'd be ranked 3 in the country....plus, i'm not sold on Bama being a heavyweight next year w/out Croyle, plus D takes some hits there as well....

Plus, let's just say UF loses to LSU and Auburn, but beats UT and UGA....wich is possible/likely....we'd have to lose as would UGA 0 other conf. games to win it...and since UGA and UT play each other, that eliminates one...and UGA plays Aub and we play LSU....both capable of beating both of us....

that's why i see UF winning it...as much as it pains me to say it. :yuck:

That will be a neat trick for Cal to make the national championship after losing by 20-something in their first game at Tennessee. :biggrin2:

then who will be the team to beat in the East next year if not UF? UGA? TN? USC? :dunno:

I dont think that Florida will win the SEC East next year. I think that Tennesee might win it if they can beat Georgia, but they have to play them at Georgia.Another game to watch for Tennessee is @ South Carolina. So right now in the East to me its a toss up between Tennessee & Georgia. It just depends how Tennessee responds to all the changes. In the west im almost positive that it will be Auburn.

In the East also dont forget about the ole ball coach, you know he will be in it too. Spurrier will win some big games, he always does. The question is, will he win enough to get him to the championship? I dont see Tennessee losing to him two years in a row, but anything can happen.

I'm curious as to why you don't think UF will win it next year? the schedule has been brought up and that's a valid arguement...it is tough....but i just don't think it's fair to expect that TN will win it....

UF has the most people returning on both sides of the ball, at least at positions that will matter a great deal, than UGA and UT...USC, well, i think they did a nice job this year, but they won't sneak up on anyone...UT as USC will be tough granted.

But UF has the least amount of questions to be answered from a skill position standpoint...and after a full season in this offense, and a full off season to evaluate and practice, you have got the makings of a good run by that UF team....again it makes me sick :disappointed: to even say that, but UGA, TN have too many questions, and until USC starts to make thier run i can't say they're the favorite either....

And as i've said before in this thread...while UF's schedule is rough, if they beat UT and UGA...they have the upper hand...that would put each of us with one loss, and since UT/UGA play each other, one of us will have a 2nd loss eliminating the loser from the scene...and the winner will still have to play LSU (TN) and Aub (GA), which both are capable of losing...thus putting all the pressure on UF.

The wild card is USC. If they beat UF and either Ga or TN...then it becomes sticky.....but let's see if that happens first....

Besides i want UF to be the favorite, i want everyone under the sun singing thier praises, have a high pre season ranking, which if they win their bowl game, i can almost assure you they will be top 5 in pre season...Let's see how UM does with all the pressure of a fan base with sky high expectations and the media 2nd guessing everything he does...remember, he'll have a bit of a qb contraversy as well if CL doesn't get it together with that offense or UM doesn't taylor it more to CL's skill sets....you could see a lot of Josh Portis if the latter doesn't happen....

either way it should be very ineteresting....

From my completely objective point of view as a Gator fan (lol), I have to agree that UF on paper makes the most sense for the SEC East, but its not overwhelming, especially because of the schedule. The season could be a repeat of this year for the SEC East (and West), with no team being able to dominate the others all season long so as to emerge as clearly the best.

I mean, UF beat UT and Ga., but Ga. was without Shockley that day. USC almost beat Georgia and did beat Florida. Florida barely lost to LSU, but UT had a great victory there. Florida got blown out by Alabama, but UT barely lost to 'bama. UT lost to Vandy, and Floride beat Vandy. It goes on and on.

As I've said before, the SEC just has a bunch of parity right now. Hard to tell whether everyone is just mediocre or everyone just really has strengths that come to the fore here and there in different games. As a life-long SEC fan, I'm leaning towards the latter.
