Actually, if we loose to Cal people will be calling for CPF's head two weeks before the UF game. Maybe Cutcliffe will be a head coach again by kickoff?

The good things about next year's Florida game is that it's at home, we have an extra game prior to playing Florida and it won't be out first test of the year since we open with Cal.

Cal....west coast offense....

The way we lag in pass defense, I'm nervous about that game.

I agree that UT will be back next year.  That game against Florida will tell you a lot.  You get it at home, I assume as early as this year, and if you win it you have the scene set for a major run.

The thing is, even if you lose that game, you cannot react by folding up like a cheap tent -- like you did this year after some tough losses.  If this year taught us anything, it is that it ain't over until its over.  Even if you lose two games in the SEC, you still have a darn good chance of winning your division and then you are 60 minutes way from either the Sugar or the Orange and $14 million.

If you lose to Florida early, there will be tens of thousands of folks screaming for Fulmer's head and complaining about the QB's, etc.  If that happens next year as it did this year, then the measure of your team's character (and chances to get back in it) will be measured by how quickly they regroup.  This year the team's dissapointment at not having as good a year as it had hoped, just 6 weeks into the season, spelled doom the rest of the way.

yeah, the UF game will be huge as usual, but our season happens between Oct 7 and Nov 12....that 5 game stretch will be the key....i don't think if we lose to UF that'll be any indication of how good or bad we'll be the rest of the year...the story will be told during that month and half....3 fairly rought road games and two brutal home games...

The worst thing that we could do is win the UF game and every0one start thinking National Title....next year will have to be one game at a time for real.

Doesn't matter who we lose to next year first. Fulmer's head will be on platter and media will start the fire chatter. He better hope Cut gets team on track which I think he will. Phil has no breathing room anymore.

 Take a photo or snap shot of this season and you'll get your 2006 results. I'm afraid more of the same is on the horizon.

Disagree. Cut will bring back fundamentals. Two games where we fumbled two times on the 5yd and 0yd lines. That kind of crap and penalties lost us games. This isn't a team that needs to rebuild. It is a team that needs to get the small things down so they go on to the big things. Like winning again.

No way do we have back to back 5-6 seasons. Especially when our schedule gets somewhat easier next year, Cut returns with better coaches and our special teams....well....they'll probably be the same.

I think the Vols swell up and win the SEC next year. I think if nothing else the lack of bowl $ is a heck of an attention getter.

Richt was 3-0 against Fulmer heading into 2004 too.

Good did him that year.

Tennessee has won 2 of the past 3 games against Florida. Meyer's offense sucked in this year's offense and it will again next season. The new coach is flashier than Zook, but the results aren't better.

South Carolina won 7 games this season. That is 1 more than last year. However, the only decent team they beat was Florida. Every season, the Cocks think they are one season away and they still finish in the middle of the SEC East. Spurrier's offense did not do as well this year as people think. South Carolina finished rated 104 in the nation in total offense this season. 4 of 5 conference wins came against teams with losing records.

Georgia has done the best job of reloading each season. However, Richt had an experience quarterback in each of the season's that he won the east. Next year will be a new experience for him as he breaks in a raw quarterback.

Tennessee has a ton of question marks. However, it is abundantly clear that the Vols may have the most talent in the SEC East. How the new coaching staff members interact with the team... and the offseason/spring preparations will go along way in deciding the Vols fate next season.

Vanderbilt returns to the bottom of the east next season along with UK. 5-6 is Vandy's one shining moment. Kentucky still sucks, of course, until they get a new coach.

Next season has way too many questions marks for anybody to accurately predict what will happen. Who could know that Tennessee would win the SEC East in 2004 with 2 freshmen quarterbacks and Rick Clausen? Who could predict that after a 10-3 season, the Vols would fall to 5-6 with most of its talent returning from the previous season? Who knew that Meyer's offense would suck in the SEC? OK, I think alot of people saw that one coming. Anyways, it should be an exciting season next year. I think 4 teams have a legitimate chance of winning the EAST next season with 3 losses. However, anyone of 3 teams (UT, UF, UGA) could rise above the other and have a much better season. USC only wins if it can do it with a 5-3 conference record.
