SEC Regular Season Title versus Elite Eight Appearance

Would you rather win the SEC regular season title or make the Elite 8 and lose?

Been meaning to ask this since the Cal doesn't care about the conference title thread just because I wonder what the mindset is. I think most (if not all) would take a Final Four appearance over a SEC regular season title, but what about just breaking through the Sweet 16 barrier to the 8 and then lose.

Two ground assumptions here -

1. This would be for the 2010-2011 (or beyond) season.
2. Tennessee doesn't make it past the Sweet 16 this year.

So which would you rather have, a SEC regular season title or a trip to a regional final with a loss in the tournament?

Is this question another joke?

Not meant to be. So many people were so adament about how much a conference title meant that I wondered which people would prefer. I'm hoping that the Elite 8 wins 99/1, but I was just wondering.

Trust me - it's no decision for me, Elite 8 100% of the time.

Winning conference titles is what gets you to the high seed needed to make the elite 8. They go hand and hand. You never turn your back on winning a championship of any kind.

Even though Cal is an a$$, he's right. College basketball is a post season sport. You prepare your teams in the regular season to do well in the post season. Pearl won a conference championship a couple of years ago...are fans really that excited about that? No. We just want a deep run in the tournament for once.

Tennessee was a 2 seed twice in the last 4 tournaments, look how far that got us.

I would take a two seed every year. You have every opportunity to advance with a one or two seed. Winning conference championships is what puts you in that position.

Elite 8 means nothing final four means everything IMO. So with that, I would rather have the SEC championship because that goes down in the record books and puts another SEC title by the Tennessee name when competing with Alabama,Florida, LSU, and Kentucky(bball only), and Georgia for bragging rights.

SEC title because of what 99VOL says. The title is historical, you get a banner to remind you and puts you up on opponents. Not saying that I wouldn't want a deep run into the NCAA, but the SEC title will live long after a deep run fades into memory.

The SEC title means something, whether or not Cal says so, but we've never been to the Elite Eight.

It is disturbing that this question is even being asked.

How is an Elite 8 not historical or something that goes down in the record books?

And they would put up and Elite 8 banner.

Finish second or third in your conference and get to the Elite 8, versus win your conference and out Sweet 16 or earlier?

Really?

I am still stunned that there is a question about this.

I am stunned you can have 17,500 posts on a rivals website and even post from the golf course. I'd hate to be the client you bill your time to.

I just like to see what the people think. People made such a big deal about Cal's comments, I figured I'd see how many really thought that highly of a conference title.

I am, but I'm not.

Uhm, making the elite 8 is not "historical." Sorry.

Why would it not be? Up to this point Saint Bruce has accomplished nothing more than Saint Jerry. An Elite Eight appearance would change that.
