SEC Regular Season Title versus Elite Eight Appearance

Would you rather win the SEC regular season title or make the Elite 8 and lose?

I am usually a bigger fan of winning a conference title than advancing a little farther in the NCAA tournament, but we just won the SEC regular season a couple years ago and (as said several times above) we've never been to the Elite Eight. If the question were SEC regular season & tournament title versus Eliite Eight, then I'd go with the SEC titles. It really annoys me that we haven't won an SEC tournament since '79.

Finish second or third in your conference and get to the Elite 8, versus win your conference and out Sweet 16 or earlier?

Really?

I am still stunned that there is a question about this.

Wow. The Elite 8. Big Deal.

It's not historical. It's not something to get moist over. It's one more round. I feel like we are talking about the final four here.

Great point. It would only be the best season in the history of the program, but who cares about post-season play?

It's not even an accomplishment. It would do nothing for the program. The only people that think the Elite 8 is the end all-be all are the people holding it over Pearls head.

And it would be forgotten by everyone outside of Knoxville in 2 months. Hardly "historical."

Yea I bet no coaches ever say, "why would you go to a program that can't get past the Sweet 16?" or that graphic that pops up anytime we are in the tournament that says we've never made it past the Sweet 16.

The fact is it would be the biggest accomplishment in the history of our program.

I am stunned you can have 17,500 posts on a rivals website and even post from the golf course. I'd hate to be the client you bill your time to.

I just like to see what the people think. People made such a big deal about Cal's comments, I figured I'd see how many really thought that highly of a conference title.

I see your point re: Calipari's comments and should not have jumped on you about asking the question in light of that. I guess what I'm saying is I can't understand how people would actually vote for the SEC champ option.

And I don't bill anyone for time on a golf course, even when discussing or working on a file. And they should be grateful, as yesterday they threw a single at us, a guy from Montenegro in town for a convention and who spoke almost no English. He had picked up a club three times before in his life. He lost three balls before he reached the first green. He tried to putt with a rake. He drove his cart onto the green. On another hole, he left his cart in the middle of the fairway 80 yards from the hole.

One of the longest rounds in my life. Had I been billing, I could retire.

Why is making the Elite 8 a bigger accomplishment than winning the conference? I mean, if we have a chance to go on and get to the Final Four, or you know, the championship game, then you would have a point. But just getting bounced in the elite 8? BIG WHOOP

No one is saying it is the be-all and end-all.

But you do have to get to the Elite 8 before you can get to the Final Four. Right now, its the next target.

You really don't understand that post-season success is greater than regular season success?

If UK wins the SEC regular season but get bounced in the Sweet 16 but UT, who did not win the SEC, advances to the Elite 8, we have had the better season.

I gotcha. And I agree. But I knew others wouldn't. I just wanted to see what breakout it was.

And you are nicer than me with billing. :eek:lol:

I have to say Elite 8, only because the program hasn't made it that far prior. Conference titles are nice, but we got one of those outright in '08. Heck, Jed got a shared one. It's all about the tournament.

What if UK got bounced in the first round and UT got bounced in the second. They won the SEC and we win JACK. Then who has had the better season?

Which do think people would remember most in your scenario? UK winning the regular season SEC or being the first number one seed to lose to a 16 seed?
