SEC Reprimands Fulmer

I believe it is very sad that we have those on our board who want to bash our coach. If he was having years of going with 2 or 3 wins we would all want a change. But let's face it we've only had one bad year in the last few. No team has won the NC game every year the last 10 years. I believe it is GREAT to be a TN Vol and I am proud of them and our coach!!!:)

I can't understand why players and coaches have to be publicly scrutinized but the officials get a free pass. To my knowledge, you can't say anything about any officials in any sport without being fined or something. They can royally screw you and you are just supposed to take it without voicing your opinion or concerns. BS!!!

They want to protect the refs from lunatics that call in death threats to guys that make bad calls.

I stand corrected. After double checking the aforementioned list, Bowden has a higher winning percentage then Fulmer over the past 10 years but not over their total HC careers. I am fairly certain that I saw a new list on ESPN a couple of weeks ago that showed someone ahead of Fulmer.

Thanksgiving dinner in an hour. Later!:salute:

Lloyd Carr is first. Fulmer is second.

Another reason for the no badmouthing the refs rule is to avoid the appearance that they games are in any way fixed.

One bad year? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. I felt pretty sick to my stomach after 2000, 2002, 2005...because I picked up the newspaper and saw that we finished unranked after those seasons.

IMO CPF has you all drinking his koolaid on this one. The no-call on Morely's muffed punt return where it pretty clearly hit is arm affected the outcome every bit as much as the alleged no-call on Russell's fumble. TCHFCATUTK is just trying a little late season misdirection here because he knows that a lot of fans got so mad over '05 that a 3-conference loss season is not going to make them happy campers again. Ergo, try to convince everyone that there were only two conference losses because the refs stole the LSU game from UT.

The refs didnt steal the game, we lost it even though LSUtried their best to give it to us. With that many missed opportunities , we didnt deserve to win. We were outplayed!

A lot of people view an 8-4 season with a trip to the Peach Bowl as an acceptable year. I think quite a bit of the difference between the pro- and anti-Fulmer crowds has nothing to do with Fulmer, per se; it's just that people have different mental "levels of acceptability." I assume everybody would agree that Fulmer should go if we were losing six games a year; I assume nobody would think so if we were only losing one or two. We're floating around in between somewhere. I think we'd all agree that there has been a dropoff since the success of the 90s; what we disagree on is whether the consistent 3- and 4-loss seasons we've had this decade mean we've fallen far enough yet to warrant a change.

I personally think that 8-4 and a trip to the Peach Bowl is a good year for Maryland, not Tennessee, and that we probably won't reassert ourselves as one of the top programs in the conference until we make a change. My dad remembers the 70s and losing to Alabama every year; while obviously he'd like to be back where we were in the 90s, he thinks that at least we usually have a winning record every year and we usually beat Alabama, so why would we fire someone who's winning games, beating Alabama, and won us a national championship? Neither of us really care anything one way or the other about Fulmer; we just differ on whether going 8-4 is acceptable or not.

(And yes, I grew up in the 70s, so it's not like I don't remember what being bad is like.)
