SEC title contenders in 2024

I think 8-9 wins is tops for next season. Things are looking a little better for '25 but we are not recruiting at a high enough level to be a SEC or natty contender yet.

So of course we will start with the usual suspects Alabama and Georgia and the Dawgs could be going for a 4 peat next season. I guess LSU will be in the mix as well I’m not sure if Jayden Daniels and their offensive playmakers return or not. Do you guys think OU and Texas will come in immediately and challenge for the SEC next season ? Or will they have some growing pains and struggle. And what about our Vols if this season was a transition year what does that mean for next season. Is it a rebuilding year ? or can we make some noise and make a run at the SEC title game? We need a good solid win in our bowl game to go into the offseason feeling good.
We have 24 or so players that can stay or move not counting the undergrads this year. Tennessee realistically will be 5 or 6th at best next season in the league. It's 2025 when we should jump to top 4 or better. Schedule is more difficult next year as well.

Depends transfer portal and if Nico is the second coming of Christ, for the Vols to make some noise....or there will always be Jake Merklinger too! I see 8/9 wins next season as a reasonable expectation. As for the other schools, UGA and BAMA reload, Texas and OU should be close but they finally have to play a real schedule, and LSU should stay relevant as an outside shot, and even Ole Miss. Of course this all can and will change depending on roster turnover.

As others have said - on paper, 8 wins would be very good next year. In ‘25, we should be a force.

Ask me in August and my response will foolishly be, “12-0 until it’s not!!!!”

We are not in the top 5 in the conference next year
I see it like this top to bottom next year. The group highlighted from 4-9 will all be really close to each other so that order is whatever with injuries, transfers, QB play, etc....

1. Georgia until they are not.
2. Bama until they are not.
3. Texas
4. Ole Miss
5. Oklahoma
6. LSU
7. Tennessee
8. Florida

9. Missouri
10. Kentucky
11. Auburn
12. Mississippi St
13. Texas A&M
14. Arkansas
15. South Carolina
16. Vandy until they are not

Chattanooga - W
NC State Wolfpack - W
Kent State - W
Oklahoma - W
Florida Gators - W
Bama - L
UTEP - W
Arkansas - W
Georgia - L
Kentucky - W
Mississippi State - W
Vanderbilt - W

This is acceptable in year four. If they drop any more it will be Florida, NC State Wolfpack, and/or Oklahoma. Not to seem ungrateful for 8 and 9-win seasons as it's good stuff, but come on. That would be two years in a row without a marquee win in the regular season. You have to start getting those in year four and beyond. This is his team at this point.

BTW, this schedule feels counterfeit without USC and Missouri

Some Ole Miss love in there. I agree. Their schedule next year is so back-heavy. They will probably be well within the top 10 by the time they play Florida, but whew **** can go south for them fast with Florida, LSU, Georgia, Kentucky, Oklahoma, and South Carolina in a row.

We will not beat Oklahoma on the road and NC St and Florida games will be toss ups. 9-3 at best next year.

I am an optimistic person (especially when it comes to our VOLS). Don't count team 2024 out of competing for championships.

I'm just a fan. Not an Xs/Os guy. Not a football analyst. I drink beer, eat wings, watch games, and participate on this crazy platform (thanks Freak).

We have much to look forward to next year.

1. Aside from one or two whose skills are debated, VOLS have a really strong coaching staff that believes and reportedly stated VOLS will compete for a Natty. I'm with them.
2. Some GREAT young talent returning on offense. I'm excited about Nico, Sampson, Squirrel, Nimrod. Hopeful the OL will be ready to set up a season of great scoring production.
3. If Mincey and Mays both return on OL.. BOOM!
4. Pearce is a beast and will be cornerstone of the D. Let's see who else rises.
5. NIL and portal are wild cards. Who knows?!! VOLS perform well at the NIL game.

Go VOLS! I believe.

A&M will be a lot higher. IMHO, they will keep most of their players + be coached far better. Jimbo was a disaster.

Always keep believing even when the evidence is overwhelmingly stacked against you 🤪

Vols will have a lot of new young parts next season and add transfer parts. Will be learning experience for a lot of new. I anticipate no better record and could be a game or two worse.

But that also depends on changes to the rosters on the teams they will play.

Really hard to be very definitive because so much is unknown.

9-3 is where I am currently. A lot can change though because we don't know who is declaring, hitting the portal, coming in though the portal, staff changes etc. Our toughest games are most likely bama, UGA, and OU. It would be nice to win at least one of those. We didn't have any significant wins this season but I can't complain too much as I expected this year to be average. Really tough to say at this point with any certainty what next year will be like. GBO!
