SEC title contenders in 2024

Thief offense just took a huge hit with losing Lebby.
I don't think so. Lebby scored a lot of points, but his in-game play calling left a lot to be desired. The new OCs are familiar with Lebby's system, but have had success in their roles for quite a while. The real key, I think will be the development of Jackson Arnold at QB. He was a 5* recruit who played some this year, but not enough to show what he can do with a game plan built around him. Regardless, the offense could drop off a little but still play more complimentary ball.

My fear... it's groundhog day again. It'll be AL & GA and no one else close.
they play each other in the regular season and they both have a hard schedule next season . If they have 1 off game its a 2 loss season for one of them .

So of course we will start with the usual suspects Alabama and Georgia and the Dawgs could be going for a 4 peat next season. I guess LSU will be in the mix as well I’m not sure if Jayden Daniels and their offensive playmakers return or not. Do you guys think OU and Texas will come in immediately and challenge for the SEC next season ? Or will they have some growing pains and struggle. And what about our Vols if this season was a transition year what does that mean for next season. Is it a rebuilding year ? or can we make some noise and make a run at the SEC title game? We need a good solid win in our bowl game to go into the offseason feeling good.
Let’s start with beating Florida at home next year. That is step one. It will be inexcusable to lose that one next year. If start another trend with this Florida psychological baggage again, I will be concerned about Heupels future. I don’t think we will be ready to win the east next year but I hope we are competitive against the better teams and trend towards a run in 2025 when Nico is a Jr. would like to see 9-3, a win vs Florida and competitive games against Ga, BAMA, and OK.

I see it like this top to bottom next year. The group highlighted from 4-9 will all be really close to each other so that order is whatever with injuries, transfers, QB play, etc....

1. Georgia until they are not.
2. Bama until they are not.
3. Texas
4. Ole Miss
5. Oklahoma
6. LSU
7. Tennessee
8. Florida

9. Missouri
10. Kentucky
11. Auburn
12. Mississippi St
13. Texas A&M
14. Arkansas
15. South Carolina
16. Vandy until they are not
That actually looks reasonable although I’d drop Ole Miss a bit. They won’t sustain this years success.

All I know is we have to stop losing the games we should win. SC last year. Florida and Missouri this year.

Texas competes from Day 1, richest school in the conference, talent rich state. Returning top flight qb

Who is going take down Georgia and Bama ? They aren’t going anywhere anytime soon especially Georgia. But I agree them in the SEC title game and them in the playoff is getting really old.
well pretty simple solution isn’t, beat them

As others have said - on paper, 8 wins would be very good next year. In ‘25, we should be a force.

Ask me in August and my response will foolishly be, “12-0 until it’s not!!!!”
with NIL and portal, counting 2 years out is fool’s gold imo. Different than it used to be. If Texas or ATM or USC Oregon want to buy a significant contributor they can. I see it happening that if a team plays another the following season they could be enticed to buy a player to improve their odds of winning.

I think 8-9 wins is tops for next season. Things are looking a little better for '25 but we are not recruiting at a high enough level to be a SEC or natty contender yet.

I am seeing 9-3 based on the record. I think we get Florida next year but lose to Oklahoma, Alabama, and Georgia. We do have a shot against Alabama.

More then likely 9-3...If Nico is as good as we are led to believe 11-1...But if he isn't we will do good to be 8-4 . If we don't get some help in areas soon we are screwed ..This team looked piss poor this year ..We are missing good players all over the field and if they aren't replaced , sorry to say I could see the wheels fall off... Hopefully they can get some plug and play guys in portal. Man I hope Nico is good with all the money tied up in him .

Agree. Getting Florida at home in October may help.

I think the end of the SEC East is going to spell the end of the Florida monkey. We won't play them every year and we won't get them as the first game anymore. This is why I am happy about this change. The SEC East was miserable for us and most of that was related to that third Saturday in September matchup with Florida. (Playing Alabama with UF and Georgia not playing them most of the time was an issue as well but to me, just the Florida game is what caused so much heartburn).
