SEC Tournament Game Thread: (3) Lady Vols Vs. (11) Ole Miss

[QUOTE="Rickster, post: 19595086, member: 4009"] Great coaching by the staff and leadership by our seniors. Got to love those tourney wins especially when things seemed primed to go the other way.

Coach— I generally value your input but I grow weary sometimes of your sitting on the sidelines second guessing decisions made in the heat of the game. I’m not sure where, or how long, you coached, but you know coaches make decisions under pressure and sometimes the execution make the decisions correct, and sometimes executions make those decisions look incorrect.
Tough cone from behind victory in a game we executed poorly so I’m not gonna second guess decisions. Survive and advance.

It was a hard fought, poorly refereed game.We came out on top and that's what matters!
It wasn’t good basketball, actually it was like watching a really big high school team that has “hot potato” syndrome, you call it what you want but if you cover a dog terd with honey it’s still a dog terd

Was on the road to Chicago and my reactions watching on the phone weren't great for the driver. Great tough win!! Davis was an AA, 6 games in a row 20 plus. Pretty sure UT needs that 7 in a row facing South Carolina. Excited for the team. Won't even talk the few negatives, a win is a win right now. GLV!
Oh,you got plenty that are hammering the negatives for us..

Our offensive rebounding totally offset what advantage they gained in turnovers. 58 shot attempts to their 65 but they fouled more on shot attempts and so our plus 12 free throw attempts did more than equal out their plus seven shot attempts. You could say the game came down to three point shooting we made 7 to their 6. Game was really even we won the first and fourth quarter and they won the second and third. The way we clamped down on them in the fourth with total domination was classic of the Lady Vols of the past. Great win for us.

Petty of you, someone who claims to be a coach, to take pot shots at Kellie. Kellie did a great job as did the players to overcome adversity and pull out the win. Everyone can see you have ill feelings towards Kellie. No one wants you as part of the team because you act like a 12 year old in a 60 year old body. The team needs coaches who are mature and experienced and she has those assistants already. I doubt any poster here would vote you onto the team. Start a poll if your ego can stand the result but regardless, LEAVE KELLIE ALONE. No one needs or wants your help or input.

Wait til next year without Davis.

why is it yall keep wanting to focus on next year when we are still playing NOW? Yes, next year is a reality we all get it but let’s be honest it’s a great sign that she can leave and be a first rounder no matter how “weak”’the class may be. it means she did what she was supposed to do in growing her game and be one of the best.

I am pretty sure last year we were thinking OMG who is gonna score with Rennia someone better develop well there ya go... Our post have got to get better... And before it’s even said yes Key was in foul trouble and didn’t score HOWEVER no one can deny she is developing.

So anyways, yes next year will be different but we don’t know how how the players will continually develop OR if Kellie will get a transfers that we will say OH look another scoring option

The bigger problem focusing on next season is no one know what the final roster will even look like. Who will transfer in and out because everyone will be eligible immediately and going to be some big names in the portal. Saying going to be a bad year without Davis is ridiculous at this point because we might have one or two superstar quality players on the way plus player development of players already on the roster.

When posters talk about how bad because of turnovers wonder how Ole Miss felt about getting pounded on the boards or the way we shot the ball in the fourth quarter against their defense when they couldn't stop us. Not turning the ball over is important, but their are a lot more factors in a game. We could turn the ball over 25 times against SC but if we win the offensive boards and rebounding by 15 and shoot 50 percent or better bet we win in spite of the turnovers. Point being you can't just look at turnovers several other factors decide a game. We know full well by now that were going to have turnovers just don't have the point guards with the speed and I guess the ability to prevent it from happening. We've turned it over a lot in almost every game this season, but we usually win the boards and other areas of the game to offset that stat. We'll have to keep doing that more than likely.

Look folks I backed Kellie when many of you said hiring her was a mistake and not going for a big name was foolish. I stood behind her when very few on this board did so. That has not changed and it will not change, Coach K has my full support and will have it moving forward. But that does not change who I am or how I post. I post as a coach, not a fan. For nearly as many years as Kellie has been alive, I have walked a sideline. I saw her play in person in 96-97-98 and sat with her Coach, CPS for over half a game and made a commitment to coach girls from that conversation with Pat.

Watching Coach K yesterday was brutal for me...Not working obviously biased refs, not trying to interrupt a 13-4 run to start Q2 and an 8-3 run to end it,,,and an 8-2 run to end Q3 was not good coaching, for me, for Kellie, for anyone. When you continually let the team endure these runs it makes them wonder if they are ever going to get your help. In a game, a coach has many weapons and the most visible one is a time out (and tv timeouts DO NOT COUNT as a called timeout). Time outs are part of coaching and as a coach we have to use what few direct-influences we can.

I looked back on my posts for this game (during the game) there were nine,, 5 were about not using timeouts,, 2 about working the refs, 1 about Suarez NOT being the answer, 1 growl and the first one asking when coach was going to show up...None were pot shots. The coach has to coach!

Every player has a bad game and every coach gets in a whirlwind that they can't seem to shake in a game.
Yes, it happens to all coaches, ME TOO.

I applaud the resiliency of the players for this game. They stood strong until coach showed up in Q4 and once she got there, they turned it around and fought against a team that was clearly on a mission.

I back Coach K and will continue to do so as she was my choice before she was even approached for the job and only being talked about as a possibility (go back and read my posts before she was hired and you will see this). But understand, Rick, unlike most here who post by emotions, I post as a coach and will continue to do so.

We need a point guard that that values the ball and is a ball hawker on defense. This team would be clicking if we had that players. A bonus would be a high percentage, consistent 3 ball shooter.
