Sec vs.

good point, but beats the hell out of being an AL dweller 7 days a week. I'd prefer losing every ballgame to that sewer.

Hey, have been out of Tn. I was born there. What's so great about it, as I remember hills are hills. Looks about the same. I will take the coast any day to the mountains, but to each his own. Hopefully BP hasn't destroyed the gulf. By the way from the looks of things you may get your wish next year.

Every time Bama or Florida wins a national championship it helps them in recruiting, and puts us further behind those teams.

Okay good point. But if the sec turns into the wac or the sunbelt don't you think that hurts our recruiting more? We fix the problem of them winning nc's by UT beating them thus taking us instead of them to nc's. If UT beats a team that got beat by a wac opponent the voters are not going to care.

I wouldn't cheer for Bama because the better and stronger they are, the worse off we are. Florida and Alabama winning national titles is not good for Tennessee. Losing those sort of games would be better for us.

So basically you don't care if tn is good as long as our rivals suck more then we do

I take a great deal of pride that we are in the SEC. There is no other conference like it, you never hear other conferences after a championship chant their conference's name. We may have gone 4-4 in conference last year, but 4-4 in the SEC is 6-2 or 7-1 in other conferences.Being in the heart of ACC country, you can be sure that I took a great deal of pleasure on the last day of the regular season when UGA and S. Carolina defeated Clemson and GT. Clemson and GT played for the ACC championship the next week. To me the 2 fourth place teams in the SEC East embarrassing the ACC divisional champs is great for UT. Maybe it's a southern thing that we all feel connected in some weird way, or we have a major cultural chip on our shoulder, I don't know. I do know the better the conference is the better we are. If Bama beats Penn St. and LSU destroys UNC it makes us look better throughout the season if we get a win or a close loss. That doesn't mean I don't want to kick the hell out of Florida or Alabama in September and October, it just means that I respect them and their traditions. We will have our opportunity to beat the Gators and Tide and we need to take advantage of it.

IMO most people from other conferences see fans of SEC teams to be arrogant elitist. You know what? We are. I am. I bet most people on this board are. And honestly, I am happy to be. We have earned that right. IMO we (UT) is the second most distinguished football program in the conference. Our tradition and winning ways helped shape the SEC into what it is now.

you beat me to it. i use to pull for the sec so the national media would respect the sec and shut up about the big 10....but now i realized that the stronger florida, bama, lsu are... the weaker we get...

we need to go back to the way it use to be.... bama and tennessee on tops... but i dont think florida is going anywhere bc of their in state talent but maybe we could get rid of bama...:banghead2:

There is no danger of the SEC dropping to that level. If the majority of the conference teams fell a notch or two, at worst we would be on the level of the Big 10/PAC 10.

Noted. But which scenario sounds better? Bama gets beat by Penn State, drops to whatever but def not #1 anymore and we beat them, or they are undefeated when we play them, they are #1 and we beat them. Seems to me beating the #1 team helps alot more. Again this isn't about some SEC alliance (I hate most of the other teams in the SEC) its about whats best for my team. You make some good points so I guess it has both ups and downs if they do well.

It doesn't really matter unless we are in the BCS picture. From a personal standpoint of course beating the #1 team is always more special. I just can't bring myself to pull for UF or Bama so that they can be undefeated when we play them. Especially when we are down like we are right now, I can look forward to pulling against those two teams. Nothing makes a Saturday better than UF or Bama losing.

i agree with you keeping the SEC the strongest conference is important imo

makes teams play harder when their playing the #1 team too imo or any top 5

If the SEC has the best team in the country year in and year out, that's a good thing for everyone involved. Even if it's a hated rival.

Hoping the league's top teams sink down to everyone else's level doesn't exactly help the conference....it puts us on par with the ACC and Big East.

If it were possible for Alabama and Florida to literally lose every single game for the rest of eternity, I'd probably be slightly happier.

Which scenario makes you feel better?
Florida 76, Charleston Southern 3
Florida 13, Charleston Southern 27

Not if you're hoping that your personal team takes over that top spot. Just cause I hope your team fails doesn't mean I hope the winning tradition that has become synonymous with them is removed from the conference, I simply want it with a team not named Florida, Alabama, or Georgia.

Fair enough.

As long as UGA gets to watch UF or UT play for an SEC title less than an hour from their campus, I'm a happy camper most years.

I don't have the same level of hatred for any other team in the conference.

I cheer for what helps Tennessee and that's about it. I fail to see where Bama and Florida winning National Championships helps Tennessee in any way.

i used to cheer for SEC schools in all OOC. But now I don't so much, because I think the worse our rivals are, it couldn't hurt us in recruiting. Bama winning a NC makes recruiting vs them a little more difficult.

Depends on the SEC school and who they are playing OOC. I think the only time I would ever pull for Bama or Florida is against ND. I just hate ND that much.
