Second R Debate

I know what I haven't liked -- The campaigns in the ME, significant portions of the ACA (though I still view it generally as a step in the right direction). Not that I've reflected it much on here, but I do consider myself a proponent of smaller federal government. Not to the extent of many on here, but I am. It's a much more effective form of government. There's other more secondary things I'm a general fan of, like subsidized, private non-profit secondary education.

At the same time, though, I'm for:

- Universal health care via mandate
- Pro-choice
- Marijuana legalization
- Gay marriage (in an equal rights capacity at least)

I won't lie. If you put a gun to my head right now for 2012, I'm probably going to vote for Obama again, but I legitimately want to keep my mind open. While there are some platforms of the Republican party that I actually like, I feel too disconnected in general to see myself voting for them, esp. if it's going to come down to Romney, Pawlenty or Bachmann.

:whatever:

What bugs me with Romney is the fact that he's distancing himself from the mass health care reform, yet it seems to be a big success.

A big success? Most of what I've read suggests the opposite.

It may be a function of politics, but the R's are behind the 8 ball to get elected here, and whenever they answer a question it's always in the framework of Obama and the dems and then explaining why. It's backasswards, but that's politics...

Sounds like 4 years ago and today from Team Obama - they are still using the "car in the ditch" analogy.

Gonna go find the debate online.

Robert Gibbs was on after the debate and continued the "same policies that got us into this mess". When asked what Obama had done to improve the economy he talked primarily about tax cuts for businesses and the payroll tax cut. Hmmmmm, sounds like those same policies that got us into this....wait a minute :whistling:

Jon Hunstman is going to announce his intention to run. I don't know much about him except that he's moderate and looks like Colin Cowherd. Will be interesting to see how he turns out.

I could deal with that first daughter

I agree and would add they are not that important ever.

I agree, yet that is what one usually hears a great deal if not the most from R candidates. It's their hook to get the base out, but they do very little about it. People need jobs, not a lecture on morality.

I believe my vote for my local representative has far more impact on the economy than my vote for prez...

Possibly, but most of what we are getting from the state legislature are the type of laws that ban offensive internet pics and others that deal with who can buy them off with campaign donations. Jobs, jobs, jobs are the top 3 concerns of their constituents, but we get all this other bs instead. Politicians live in another dimension from the rest of us.

kinda like dems say rich people are the problem and it's not your fault - the government will give you stuff?

Thought we were discussing the social issues side....Dems are guilty of social issues, too. Just not as rabid as the Repubs, imo

I'd argue they're the same, they just tend to value different social issues. Reps tend to do it with a sense of religious morality, and Dems tend to do it with a sense of social morality. In both instances the result is the same: freedom takes a back seat.

I wouldn't argue too much with this. Teaching morals is my job as a parent.

I was commenting on how you said they only talk about it because it gets the base going - Dems do the same thing
